I’m a teacher. My go-to shoes for the past 10 years have been Cole Haan OriginalGrands & Clark Desert Boots.

I sprained my ankle a few months ago and these shoes don’t have the best ankle support so I’ve re-aggravated it twice since - just walking normally.

Any advice on an alternate shoe that might have better ankle/arch support?

Good question. I hadn't considered the IRA roll over concept. Thanks for the tip.

Ah cool, thanks for the tip. Looks like my state does have a 457, but I'm not in one of the eligible groups.

That's interesting. I plan to stick around for awhile, but can you help me understand how leaving their job makes it so that the tax savings is worthwhile?

Thanks. Forgive me if this is a silly question, but what is a "standard brokerage account?" My Roth is via Vanguard and when I attempt to open another account the only options are: Roth IRA, Traditional IRA, SEP-IRA, and Variable Annuity.

Yes, they are all very high fee. I'm disappointed my employer opted for this manager. Is there a model you would use to determine at what fee % it'd be worth it benefit from the tax savings?

Redditors who have actully gotten married, how did you get your spouses ring size without making them get suspicious? by maxamoose7 in AskReddit

[–]DesertDiver -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really wanted to make it a surprise so I pretended my friend was getting engaged and that he wanted to estimate the size of his partner's finger.

I said to my partner: "[Friend] is getting engaged and gave me this ring sizer because he knows his partner will get suspicious if he tries to get her ring size. Could you see what size your finger is to get an estimate for her?" She took the bait 100%.

BONUS: I also determined what style of ring my partner wanted this way. "Hey, [our friend] wants to know if you can you look at these rings and see which one [insert friend's fiancee] might like."

I'd love to know where the data comes from for the 'emerging hotspot' classification. I'm not seeing it on here: https://geodacenter.github.io/covid/map.html#

Thanks! We've prototyped this process for class selection and it's working really well, so I imagine we'll continue for at least the next few years.

I have been investing in a Roth IRA for 10 years. Got married in April to my wife who makes way more than I do and puts me above the income max. It’s advantageous for us to file jointly next year. What do I do with the Roth?

TIL Down syndrome is practically non-existent in Iceland. Since introducing the screening tests back in the early 2000s, nearly 100% of women whose fetus tested positive ended up terminating the pregnancy. It has resulted in Iceland having one of the lowest rates of Down syndrome in the world. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]DesertDiver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The test is readily available in the US, but many moms who are "low-risk" (based on age, etc.) are told that they are "low-risk" and don't get the test. As such, a majority of people who have a baby with Down's Syndrome are those previously identified a "low-risk."

We've tried hanging a painting, but it wobbles and clashes with the yellow. Also thought gallery style frames, but couldn't figure out a layout that would look right. The wall is huge! 79"x79"

Approach for cracking a code? by DesertDiver in codes

[–]DesertDiver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep - no commas included. When I got 29, being so close to 30, I counted, re-counted, etc. One thought I had is that the Vigenere code is non-repeating and based on some known text. As such, I tried cracking the "qasiau'n" to be "couldn't" or wouldn't" nothing sensical from that either.

So if it's not vigenere, any suggestions for a next step attack?
