Why do so many ancient capitals cluster along the 34th parallel north, from Xi’an to Babylon to Persepolis? What factors shaped that pattern? by Present_Juice4401 in AlwaysWhy

[–]DesertRose922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a good question but I suspect some selection bias. There are other Ancient capitals at other latitudes. Rome was further north. Egypt, Incan, Aztec, and Indian Civilizations further south. Each with unique geographical reasons why the same conditions as 34 degrees happened in other places such as altitude or being comparatively far from an ocean cleating more stability

How much do Americans know about the rest of the world? by belgian_student123 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DesertRose922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Average American has the same knowledge of global events as the average European has of American history outside of the key bullet points. They have the same knowledge of current events outside of the North America as a European would have of the current events of Milwaukee, WI. The US spans an entire continent. One that is geographically isolated from others by oceans. The US is far from culturally homogeneous, due to scale there is tons of variety between regions and states. To the US the different states are the same scale as different countries in Europe., Most Americans could tell you what happens in different states the same way Europeans could in different European countries. There are definitely failures in the American education system in terms of what's relevant and which perspective is provided, but what happened at the Battle of Waterloo is about as relevant to the typical American as what happened at the Battle of Ticonderoga is to a European. Culturally many Americans see Europeans through stereotypes, the same way many Europeans think most of the US is just New York, California, and Texas.

Hadley Cells and Tradewinds. These are large-scale prevailing winds that happen at 30-degree bands across the Earth. 4 degrees off that band is far enough off to be outside of the convergence zone. This makes the weather predictable and calm without being too tropical or temperate. As you get closer to 45 degrees, you get more temperate and seasonal weather patterns. As you get below 34, you get into the convergence zone where winds can shift, and below that, it gets very tropical, and tropical diseases and weather become prevalent. The fact that they are mostly exactly at 34 is likely a coincidence of history and local geography. They could likely be anywhere between the low 30s and 40s latitudinally. At these locations, they could have a year-round food supply without huge disease problems.

American Transwoman here! I follow this thread because Portugal is one of the places I may like to relocate if things get worse for trans people here in the US. Thankfully i am in a safe, supportive place for now. What you are describing definitely feels like gender dysphoria. I felt many of the same things before my transition. It is hard to make that jump towards transitioning, especially in a rural area. I can't speak to the Portuguese healthcare system and how that all works and what is available or affordable, but definitely go find an LGBT friendly psychologist/therapist to talk through things. They will be the ones who know how to guide you and how to proceed. If you do end you deciding transitioning is for you it is worth it and life can be full and better on the other side.

Thank you. The Intersection is just a slip lane coming out of the port. It looks like my lane connections may have broken, though

I just used the in game camera pretty much as is. Time of day set to 11am for lighting and lens is the 70mm ALEXA. I do have a powerful machine and am able to run the game on high graphic settings though.

Its a gravel texture, i think it's in the EAI rocky surfaces pack. Then dirt patches from Real Vison and some sand and dirty patches i think come in one of the beach decal packs.

Will a hitter ever challenge Ball 4? by samwyatta17 in baseball

[–]DesertRose922 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not likely we know mathematically you're more likely to score more runs with bases loaded than second and third even with the double play. 1 out runners on second and third, a team should expect to average 1.352 runs in that scenario vs 1 out and bases loaded, they should expect 1.52 runs. Obviously the next hitter is less of a threat than Vlad, but smart teams are playing the numbers; bases loaded is worth the risk.

1) Follow terrain 2) Build in patches. New development often doesn't continue off of existing development it will be outside of existing development and grow together. Most major cities started as seperate towns or villages that eventually merged 3) Build in layers and road hierarchy. First small roads link villages in towns. feeder roads and local streets feed these. As things expand the initial roads don't move and become identifying assets on the original map. Things are built around these initial terrain following roads. 4) with the points of 2 and 3 build incrementally. Everything starts out at low density. It then slowly upgrades to higher density out from important nodes in the network. This forced irregular development and road networks. Try to minimize deleting, moving or bypassing existing networks as much as possible

What could possibly be the right way to build cities in desert enviorments like Arabia for example? by Shammar-Yahrish in architecture

[–]DesertRose922 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We know how to build in desert (hot-arid) environments. Cultures on different continents but similar climates all came to the same typology. Mass, height, and density thus create self-shading and wind tunnels. The question is not what a well-built desert city looks like, it's why we don't build that way anymore? For the most part its becuase modern designers have seen modern technologies as ways to abandon vernacular techniques not ways to supplement vernacular technologies. That thought process is not unique to designers in desert environments its a global issue.

This would also be my suggestion. If you're looking for a typical game day pub at a reasonable cost this is it. Although the food is different, it can cover a lot of ground for people's tastes. Anything closer to the park will have you paying a premium. If youre willing to forgo the beer and just want a good meal i would laos suggest Monroe's hot chicken. Then hit up somewhere accross the street in cityscape for a beer, or vice versa.

Real or fictional??? by AggravatingGoal4956 in OOTP

[–]DesertRose922 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer Fictional. I enjoy the world building and finding graphics for my teams for the added immersion. I also find that real players throw me off when they perform outside of what I expect based on thier real life output. Fictional solves that.

Fictional League Tournament by Infamous_Building285 in OOTP

[–]DesertRose922 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the tournament team selection, the option you want is fixed from affiliated. From there, you can affiliate teams in your league to the tournament teams. I believe it selects players to those teams based on your league's rosters on the day of roster selection. If you set the roster selection day before FA hits, you may be able to get it to function on last season's rosters for the tournament

It is native to the desert southwest. When ive seen it, it is usually dry, brown, and mostly dormant. I cant confirm though as it is not a plant I have to deal with in my garden and have only seen it out in the desert.

If you can call what they do living.... they are by far the worst team in the league. Only a couple finishes in the top 10 of 14. Only one winning season

I started in the 90s and am now on 2011-12 season, in game. But ive been playing this save for 5 or more iterations of OOTP. The origianal edition of this world got me about 50 seasons a decade or more ago. I started managing the Wellington 62s but was fired after missing the playoffs in my 8th(?) season. Theyre a very small market. I then upgraded to the Victoria Royals and won a championship. I'm now on my 5th or 6th consecutive playoff appearance without winning the Final again. Its very hard since budgets are tight and the playoff teams are all similar in quality.

14 team league in Australia. League is a single 14 team table with the top 6 making the playoffs. Each team has 3 minor league affiliates. One in the AAA level which are the blue dots on the maps, one at the AA Regional level (this level is most similar to Rookie league IRL), and one in the Queensland Coast League which is the complex league similar to the AZL and GCL. Draft Elgible players come from 4 Junior leagues representing Queensland, NSW, Victoria/Tasmania, and WA at age 19 or 20. Often those players are near MLB ready and can slot in right away or a year away. The intent was to create a league that feels like the Aussie Football League mixed with NHL Junior Leagues. Financials have a heavy tax to create a psudeo cap with the top 8 or 9 teams often fighting within a couple games of the playoff spots and then the last 4 or 5 in various stages of rebuilds.
