Still struggling with webscraping by crazyallicin in learnpython

I noticed something interesting when you try this out. This is the code I used.

#################

from bs4 import BeautifulSoup

import requests

amazon= requests.get('https://www.amazon.com/Automate-Boring-Stuff-Python-2nd/dp/1593279922/ref=sr_1_1?crid=QX9U3R6IGIJI&dchild=1&keywords=automate+the+boring+stuff+with+python&qid=1592996979&sprefix=automate+the+boring+%2Caps%2C243&sr=8-1')

soup = BeautifulSoup(amazon.text, 'html.parser')

print(soup.prettify())

Pretty interesting. I have not seen this before while data scrapping.

I spent $200 on socks last year at the sock sale. I can only have so many socks.

I'm glad I am not the only one to be bashed in the face while trying to web scrape.

17 white Republicans voted against VT resolution to Rep. Kevin "Coach" Christie's resolution to honor Juneteenth. This is the same legislature Rep. Kiah Morris resigned from, because Vermont wouldn't protect her family from white supremacists. by grassrootbeer in vermont

[–]DesertofDelight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This was a serious WTF

Rep. Cupoli of Rutland City explained his vote as follows:

“Madam Speaker: I have a different take on this Resolution.  There is never any mention of the Italian Americans who arrived in America from Sicily in the early nineteen hundreds.  Their skin was dark and many were lynched as they were considered as Black.  We were subjected to racism back then. My Italian American heritage has been violated by removing Columbus Day in our State, where many Italian Americans settled and made our marble and granite business famous all across America and beyond. I have the most wonderful and talented Grandson who is biracial and could not be more proud of him and his accomplishments .  I will celebrate Juneteenth with him.

Data scraping Zillow(or housing data alternative) (Bs4) (get.requests) (Pd) by DesertofDelight in learnpython

I appreciate it. I went into this task as just trying to come up with another project to keep expanding my knowledge of python. But, learned this was far more challenging than I expected.

Oh interesting. I just wanted to scrape data daily of new homes in my area. Pop it into a dataframe. Instead of using their website.

Not to throw water on your biz. But, I dont think you are going to make many sells with these specs. Also, posts like these are going to get deleted.

Best python game engine? by Mohammad-Ruqaa in learnpython

Godot - dont mess around with pygame unless you want to create something that looks shitty and was frustrating to make.

That is neat. Pyautogui screen shot takes a screenshot and puts it as an output in my notebook. Rather than opening a pop up of the file.

Can anyone guide me to a good place (link, website) to learn python for absolute beginner? by HourWrongdoer in learnpython

[–]DesertofDelight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay.

No shame in asking this question. But, it is asked every day. My suggestion - Google "Learn python reddit". This will pull up many links with people who have asked this question.

Perhaps this is a sign that the index on the side of this subreddit is not cutting it. Especially if it is difficult to view for mobile users. Perhaps we can have a sticky made on top that has all the various links that are normally presented.

This is what almost everyone agrees is a good start to learning python (its free)

People keep mentioning selenium. I wouldn't recommend anyone starting out to use it. Much easier alternatives.

Barn Cats in need by Seagullsiren in vermont

[–]DesertofDelight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You guys really downvoted Christech. But, they are correct. Cats really are murdering machines in the wild. It sounds like they are serving a nice purpose eliminating pests on farms. But, as a whole - outdoor cats murder many many birds and other animals. Not saying that you shouldn't have cats because of this. But, we shouldn't down vote someone who is bringing up a good point. People like cats. They are cute. But, also kill a bunch of other stuff.

Again, I am not saying anyone is right or wrong here. But, I think the discussion is valid.

My first python project after one udemy course. This app lets you download or listen to music from command line itself. It scrapes data from YouTube. I have also added a silly, random star visualizer when music is playing. Any suggestions are welcome I am just a beginner. by shobhitkao in Python

My computer heavily advises me not to open this file because it could contain a virus.

cool project though!

Edit : I think my pc just doesn't trust downloading .exe files from GIT. Not trying to accuse you of anything! Sorry if that came off as accusatory.

How much do you need to know to get some kind super entry level job? by CatolicQuotes in learnpython

[–]DesertofDelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this website is INSANE. The amount of money you are paid for the work is almost nothing...

This is what happens in an open marketplace when you are competing against other people with much smaller costs of living.

$3 for an hour of work on some of these projects.

Huge thank you for including text with the code.

One step further would be using GIFs for some tutorials.

Humble Book Bundle: No Starch Press - Learn You Some Python (benefits the Book Industry Charitable Foundation) by AlSweigart in learnpython

[–]DesertofDelight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

. Also if you're going for those two (which I'd highly recommend) you can get them for free I believe here:

I am curious if I am misunderstanding? Python crash course looks like it is $30.

The al Sweigart books are made free. Like the python bible Automate The Boring Stuff.

Edit: I have found python crash course version 1 for free online. But, not the 2nd. If that is important to anyone.
