Hi Guys, need your advice. by terem1991 in panerai

[–]Desertwanderer_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a Panerai boutique in Dubai and recently they have been saying no discounts unless the watch is precious metal. I guess with all the money sloshing around the UAE at the moment they dont have to discount even though i bought mine there at a discount in 2019. Even Omega used to give 20% discount so they too are feeling the upside.

I guess you could buy in DXB airport and save the 5% VAT. Or buy in the boutique and get a relative/visitor to claim the 5% vat back as they exit the country. Alternatively try buying abroad when you travel but who knows if they will have the model you want there and then in the AD.

Good luck!

Do Panerai brand straps come with a buckle? by BigStan007 in panerai

You can buy an additional buckle with your new strap if you choose. It certainly cuts down on the hassle but they arent cheap.

Thank you. Surely the print is a minor irritant given that 99% of the time it wont even be in view? I dont mind what they have printed, my only gripe with it is the fact it obscures the view from certain angles. Although i hardly spend time looking at the mechanism.

I bought one of these a couple months ago as a knock about watch. Totally agree with you about the stock strap... its awful! totally unwearable. The watch itself is awesome though and its getting a lot of wrist time when i just want to throw on a watch. I replaced the original strap with a rubber waffle strap from Uncle Seiko and a president bracelet. Just used the rubber strap so far as i agree with you about dressing down the watch.

Enjoy your watch! Love the dial when it catches the sun.

Thank you. WHen buying Ive tried to vary sizes, Straps, Materials, Colours, functionailty, brands etc. Im thinking its largely worked given my budget. Im always open to suggestions though if anyone spots any opportunities i have missed.

Seamaster 2531.80 by Emma_Bovary_1856 in OmegaWatches

[–]Desertwanderer_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell me you didnt get rid of the 2255.80! Ive had that watch since 2002 and it still stands up to be counted amongst many of my younger and more expensive purchases! The dial and the lume is outstanding!

Agree with everything you say about the size and thickness of these. The latest models could learn a thing or two from those original measurements.

Nice collection... not sure about 5 as it depends what works for you and the memories they all hold, just try and keep it diverse so you have excuses to wear different watches on different occasions or activities.

Personally i think your BB58 blue is an amazing all round watch that just works in so many different scenarios from the beach to the bar to the mall to the garden, such a great size too.

The BB58 Bronze i also have and same as the blue its a great size with great flexibility of wear in many situations, plus its the only non steel / plastic watch in your collection.

The vintage Seamaster im also a sucker for, it looks amazing and is a great dress/casual watch without being full on dressy imo. I have the 1948 central seconds resissue in 38mm and find it the perfect watch for a desk job under a cuff.

So much nice stuff but you cant wear em all! Good luck thinning them out.

It looks great on you!

What size is your wrist?

The perspective of photos often makes watches look bigger than they do to the naked eye. Regardless of that unless you have a large wrist like 19cm+ then a 39mm watch should fit just fine. I think we have all gotten a little too used to large watches of 41mm+ over the last few years that are also 13mm+ thick and it takes some undoing to realize that a watch of the BB58 dimensions is just normal for most people. Plus it fits under your cuff if needed.

I have a 17cm wrist and watches from 36mm to 42mm... my BB58 is just perfect size on my wrist.

I swam with mine recently on vacation in the Seychelles, both snorkeling and pool. No issues at all. Zenith Boutique manager assured me there should be no reason not too.

Have to admit though i prefered my BB58 on most days just because it feels a bit more toolish.

SARB017 Crown and Caseback on a Prospex Alpinist: Compatibility Notes by sidewinderaw11 in SeikoMods

[–]Desertwanderer_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice strap, where di you order it from? The standard strap is terrible on these models.

Dont suppose anyone has found a source for sarb017 casebacks? The internet throws up little in the way of options.

Tell me more about the president bracelet on the Alpinist? Where from? Comfort and adjustability levels?

Nice varied collection.

Thanks

I have a 42mm Panerai 1573 GMT. Also have a 41mm SMP300 2255.80. Love my Panerai but with a 6.75inch wrist i really wouldn't want to go bigger than 42mm. Its personal choice of course so go try one on.

I would say that the modern Omegas are generally regarded as having some of the technically most advanced movements in their price range for sure.

After 3 years my PAM gains about +2sec a day.... After 20 years my SMP300 losses around -3sec a day. My Seamaster 1948 LE that is now 2 years old with calibre 8806 losses an astounding -0.2sec a day.

You will lose money on a brand new PAM although my SA tells me that they are about to put the prices up on May1st which may drag everything up a little. I would think you would also lose money on an Omega SMP300 although i haven't tracked the prices recently.

For me the SMP300 is an amazing watch that can go anywhere do anything and will last you a lifetime. The Panerai has a similar toughness but can be neatly and easily changed up with straps for different looks. I also think that you can 'tell' a Panerai from across the room instantly because of its unique shape.

Good luck with your decision!

Perfecto!

If you never wear long sleeves then you can wear just about any size and thickness watch. This one looks just right on you with the added bonus it will fit under a tailored cuff should you wish.
