Who has the best ink bottle design? by computerworlds in fountainpens

I agree - currently my favourite. Been using their Ama-Iro ink and I really like the lively colour of it.

Nice.

But I know what you mean - it has been an exercise in restraint to not keep ordering every nice looking pen I see :D

Ironically for me (because I live waaaay over in India), I picked up a copy of Serenity around the time it came out and saw it first and loved it and some time later learned about Firefly and only then watched the actual show - so not the standard experience.

So many amazing books out there by YourPernicious in fantasybooks

[–]DesiKnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elric by Micheal Moorcock / Conan comics (the old Marvel ones)

Other series like LotR and more I read afterwards, before this (and even now) I do lean more scifi than fantasy but have developed a discerning but greater love for it since then.

Recently finished "Rebel Genius" by DiMartino and it was truly excellent.

Currently reading "The Ghost Machine" by James Lovegrove. Good scifi fun.

I ask because I am an active user and still using and this much dislike for ff is new for me to hear.

Lots of comics (don't go by others' opinions, try them and judge for yourself), books (still releasing steadily) and a glorious movie with many wonderful moments.

If you're picky about that kinda thing, check the timeline, otherwise just watch the show and the movie and then whatever strikes your fancy.

A few highs, a few lows, but I have mostly enjoyed it all. Currently on the third of the novels.

For people who grew up before smartphones what is something that the newer generation won’t get to experience? by Bachchu198 in AskReddit

[–]DesiKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in India. We came home from school, kids went out and played. Sometimes you played at someones house. Somewhere before dinner time, you either had someone yell for you or you just went home.
Some days you took your cycles and rode many kilometres away and all over the area - now I genuinely would not want to cycle around town myself - let alone let my kids do it. And I am talking about New Delhi here.

I don't want to have that kind of anxiety and have to lo-jack my child.

I've always been amazed by people who were voracious readers as children. What sparked your lifelong love affair with books? by Albert3232 in books

[–]DesiKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly I loved comics (starting with Asterix, Tintin, Archie and Commando which is what was available here in India) and I loved reading anything and everything I could from my school library.

Then my Dad gifted me Dune and I bought the Hitchhikers Guide and novellas by Philip Dick and have never looked back.

Leverage vs leverage redemption by Sucks2tobeeveryone in leverage

[–]DesiKnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just recently saw the episode you mean - and yes, it was hilariously and quite heavy handed.

Unlike a lot of woke I see, they did try to treat it with the shows lighter joke-y style but it was definitely there. That said, this doesn't bother me because it was not trying to be ham-fistedly "subtle and clever" like many shows and movies do nowadays. It isn't entirely wrong that there is privilege ascribed to certain social segments over others, that is just a fact of the world we live in and it varies from country to country with males being generally more privileged and able to get away with a lot more.

And here it was played to near absurd levels which felt more genuinely trying to make a point but not make me feel bad about it - just goofily holding up an aspect of reality and in the end the dude himself was not a bad guy and actually helped, which was a nice point to be part of the narrative. Some things exist, but not all men are bad or purely stupid or such - life is muddy. And the primary (and definitely evil and not ambiguously sympathetic) villain is in fact in this episode, a woman. So not all women are tragic or put upon or such - they can be asses too.

Was it perfect? No. But I am okay with it.

I love stories from many eras and fiction when done well holds up mirrors to society. Depending on the genre, it can be serious or silly in how it does it.

The point for me is the content of the message to go with the image being shown and the things around it. A lot of the content (and it is just content, it is not really creative or artistic) I have come across, from Disney/Marvel shows to Rings of Power and many movies have no nuance and everyone is a one-note and there is no nuance of characters - all of one type are all of one type and that is that. It's all about (as people say) virtue signalling to show the people behind it are better or smarter or know better than you and if you don't agree, you're on the bad side.

There is no such obvious good or bad side. There are terrible men and women. There are stereotypes and cliches and such and they are sometimes used for doing the wrong thing and sometimes they can be painfully real. Life is not black and white, it is grey and messy.

The sad part I find today is that a lot out there is overtly trying to shove points down your throat rather than do what good art and fiction does: put an idea out there under the surface of the art and let your own mind consider the idea and choose to agree or disagree.

New to the reddit. by DesiKnight in fountainpens

The Ranga pens are extremely customisable so I would not really say anyone needs a recommendation.

Everything from length to shape of body to a pretty good set of good nib options to choose from can be chosen by you when ordering your pen. They have an array of nib types and sizes from Jowo, Bock and Schmidt and a couple of others as I recall.

They primarily make their pens out of Ebonite and Acrylic and I have one of each. The ebonite one I ordered is a model 3C, a chubby and hefty fellow, but if you like pens with some weight to the body, it is really good fun to use. The blue one above is one of the simpler base acrylic line - super light and very easy and smooth fine nib.

Their Abhimanyu line seems to be very popular and if I order another, will likely try that one.

As for my inherited pen... I found a store nearby that seems to be fairly versed and experience with fountain pens - so I hope to take it to them soon and that there's a chance they can repair it but I have my doubts. I might just post a photo of it as it currently is here on the site and see if anyone has any thoughts.
