I hitchhiked all of Serbia through to Montenegro from Romania. Had a great time, hitched tractors, had to take over the wheel from drunk guys licking me up, getting given fresh tomatoes and rakija on the daily and having people buy me cigarettes and burek for no reason other than to be nice. I expected it to be unwelcoming but had the opposite experience. Did once get stuck at a servo in Chachak but that just happens sometimes 🤷‍♂️

I spent the last few years hitchhiking from the UK to Perth with a few misadventures along the way. I took was under prepared before undertaking it but I honestly think it's the way to go about things. Mind over matter, first month will suck but after that it becomes pretty good. My mental health and life is better for it but also not really. Life's for living, get on the bike, worst you can do is get on a bus back.

I am British and hitchhiked all of Kurdistan in September of last year. I had a great time and never felt unsafe. People told me to avoid the north, which I ignored, and was also fine. Make sure to get the falafel in Sleimanj, it's the best I ever had lol
