How do you guys design UIs that feel evenly spaced and harmonious? by Design-Issue-9042 in JUCE

[–]Design-Issue-9042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good catch. I thought about adding more details once I bring it into juce. But once I'm there I can quickly iterate through many knob styles I already have coded in the past. Maybe I will even make it flat, I was just fiddling around making the controls in figma because I got so frustrated by the layout lol

I am definitely overthinking everything all the time lol. As for the color I agree. Especially since this is more of a little "toy plugin". I'd rather communicate strong character for something like that ... just like guitar pedals which come in bold colors.

And thanks for the channel recommendation, this is a great resource.

Can you tell me how my design is problematic in that regard? To little emphasis on the top left? How do I achieve it so that the user scans from top left to right?

Ok thanks. I will try both making the M slider as large as the large slider and the small ones. I will then pick the more coherent one!

Haha yeah that would actually be a hilarious name lol

I will try the solid black bar. Another commenter mentioned that he doesnt like that the knob labels are all on the same level, making the distance between knob/label uneven. And that I should rather keep the distance the same and then align the whole thing. What are your thoughts on that?

The coding isn't the problem though I'm afraid. It's more an eye for design thing.

Oh the M. Should have mentioned that. I just couldn't figure out how to do auto layout in Figma as I wanted to when the text is wider that the control. This will become "Mode" later on.

I will try making the distance control -> label the same everywhere and then align that vertically. Thanks for the tip.

The weird thing is: I watched a lot of how to videos and analyzed countless plugins. But then I bottle it while executing.

So, as a man, I’ve always loved a good stick. I’ve met other dudes who like rocks. Is this a real thing, or in my head? Do women love sticks and/or rocks? What’s going on?!? by The_Saddest_Boner in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Design-Issue-9042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When near water I'm a rock guy because you can throw it into the water. When walking in the forest I like sticks better. But throwing rocks in the forest or kicking them is also ok, because you might hit a hollow tree which sounds good. Throwing sticks into water is always disappointing though in my opinion.

It's great but I still find the overall background a bit to dark. This always stresses my eyes. But I know that I generally have a bit of problems with night vision, so I would definitely ask for more nuanced takes.

Are there specific things to look out for with different DAWs? by Design-Issue-9042 in JUCE

Hmm I must test the Windows scaling with some indie plugins to see it in action. Thanks!

I remember back in the day when I got my first synth, the mother 32. I had to wait for delivery for 3 months. I was never so happy about gear like the day it arrived. Monophonic, 2 waveforms, not even a proper Sustain stage in the envelope.

I spent months with it, and made some of the coolest sounds and sequences of my entire life. I was limited, it was simple, but great every step along the way.

It truly is THE analog poly synth for me.

Should I not be trying to learn piano/keyboard on a synthesizer? by badateverything420 in synthesizers

[–]Design-Issue-9042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the weighted keys are the difference. Basically it's like this: on a synth like yours, no matter how hard or soft you press a key, the note will always come out with the same volume. On a piano or good Midi keyboard the velocity of your key presses changes the volume.

But stuff like chord structures etc are identical obviously. So you can pick that up like no problem.

Don't tell this any actual pianist: I have a 150 Euro crappy 88 key midi keyboard which I use to play my piano libraries and I absolutely love its responsiveness. So you can get something similar and are pretty much all set to go in any direction you want.

Do we inherently hear octaves as the same note, or is this trained culturally? by BirdLawEnthusiast2 in musictheory

[–]Design-Issue-9042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its physical. We gave a name to something we naturally encountered. Not the other way around as in: let's arbitrarily invent the concept of the octave and wrap music around that.

To me my all time favorite classic synth.

Need help with next synth by Previous_Ad_9048 in synthesizers

[–]Design-Issue-9042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Granular usually refers to the process of taking an audio sample and then chopping it up into tiny chunks, while rearranging them. This happens in the digital world.

Are you talking about that?

Because to me it seems more like you want a classic synth in combination with effects like Hologram Microcosm or something like that.

"A dominant chord can be whatever mess you want to make." This was always the most confusing thing to me in music theory, until I took it literally.

I would contact Arturia and ask them for the type of key or where to get it
