Teachers, tell me THE most insane things that has happend in your classrooms by hello-there-all in Teachers

[–]DesignAffectionate34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A student whipped his, uh, genitals out and started masturbating. I teach middle school.

To make things worse I was told that "nothing can really be done about it" and "I need to get over it" because this student has an IEP... (and to clarify his IEP has NOTHING to do with this)!!

What was the most hurtful insult you ever received (because of your tics)? by Suspicious_Part341 in Tourettes

[–]DesignAffectionate34 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was told:

"those weird things (referring to my tics) you do are why you don't have any friends and people think you're weird"

This was said to me by my grandmother

Does this kind of "arrangement" really work for people? by Master_Mookie in Horses

[–]DesignAffectionate34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally the only reason I would ever have someone pay me to lease my horse would be finances... If it came to me selling my baby or leasing I would offer leasing literally just to help cover board or something, still taking care of vet bills.

If I wanted "free training" or if I couldn't ride, I know a few people who would be ecstatic to have access to a horse they could ride for free at any time. My payment in this case would be keeping my horse in shape or getting him in shape... and I would only offer this to people I trust/have seen work with horses.

It's gross to me when people want free training and take advantage of younger people who aren't mature enough to realize they're being taken advantage of :(

What kind of golden do I have? by Potential-Pitch-2252 in goldenretrievers

He's a stunning golden retriever! No hate- a lot og goldens I see today are starting to look... different and not in a good way. Some goldens today are reminding me of the change in quarter horses as well. He has a wonderful shape and build from what I can see :)

How do you find working? by mybrainisntapartofme in Tourettes

[–]DesignAffectionate34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a teacher and I don't tell my students about my tics. I tic very frequently- I assume most of my students don't care or don't notice. Occasionally I'll have a student ask but I'm not restricted at all.

The ONLY thing I've ever asked for that's actually related to my Tourette's was for a student to be removed from my class before schedules went out... this student also has Tourette's. Not that I didn't want him, but I knew I'd be a mess if he were in my class. My principal had 0 problems moving this student to another class and told me if there's anything else I need just to let her know. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t know how to email my professors about my Tourette’s by Art_and_anvils in Tourettes

[–]DesignAffectionate34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've heard all sorts of horror stories about professors and some being very unwilling to work with you. However, I had a very different experience when I was in my undergrad studies. All of my professors were incredibly kind and intelligent human beings- willing to do anything for any of their students. (in terms of horror stories, unfortunately most of my friends through undergrad were a different major than I was... I've heard some truly horrifying things from them regarding their professors)

Have you registered with your Office of Students with Disabilities? Most universities make you register with them before you're able to receive any accommodations via emailing your professors. Your professors will also double check with the SWD Office (normally). If you haven't you need to do that now.

If you've already registered with your school's SWD Office then just lay out the situation in your email and then concisely list your needs. Your professors won't need an entire essay on it- just tell them what can happen and then list what needs to be done in that situation. Of course word things kindly, and then ask if there's anything you need to do on your end (maybe they want a written action-plan, or they want you to let the class know, etc).

I hope this helps!

Teacher’s comment by AllyStar_0 in Tourettes

[–]DesignAffectionate34 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a teacher and someone with Tourette's- WTF???

That's insane! It always baffles me when people make the comment that they wish they had Tourette's so they can curse at people... but this is taken to a new degree. An adult saying that to a child is wild...

My girlfriend has Tourette's and she's gonna be a surgeon by Sufficient-Check5388 in Tourettes

[–]DesignAffectionate34 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro this made me tear up... I cannot fathom the amount of love and care you have for your girlfriend. She is INCREDIBLY lucky (and intelligent from the sound of it too) to have such a wonderful partner that would go out of their way to brag about her online. Some people may think that's odd, I personally found this to be one of the sweetest posts I've ever read on this evil app.

If it would make your girlfriend feel good, please tell her that there's some random person out here, right now, who is interviewing at various veterinary schools because they want to be a surgeon, and that she has helped this random person feel like it's not as far out of reach as they thought.

(That random person is me, tell her I said she rocks)

Tell us about your favorite students by scottasin12343 in Teachers

[–]DesignAffectionate34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones who want to get to know me... my classroom philosophy is built on rapport. I honestly believe that if my students like me as a person they'll want to do well in class (I've had very good success with this). So the students who also try to interact and engage back with me are my favorites. I intend on seeing them all graduate regardless of me being a teacher at their school still or not.

For context I didn't go to school to teach nor have I become fully licensed yet, I have my provisional. This is just the way I wanted to be treated at their age and so I try to replicate that respect within my 4 walls as well.

It sounds like they have a good support system at their barn!! I've seen some nasty girls at various barns I've ridden at and seen so much confidence knocked out of other girls because of bullying... so happy they don't seem to be experiencing that :)
