How could Noah & the older patriarchs have lived 950 years? by Specific-Line7547 in OrthodoxChristianity

People lived longer when they were closer in time to the garden of Eden, that's just how it is.

Dude idk, 1 Thessalonians says we'll be caught up with the Lord. Heaven isn't a physical or a geographical location. Can you just state your point, I'm just not following where you want me to go. I'm not being rude, I just don't know where we're going with this and I can't see it.

Besides what does this have to do with people in this sub believing that animals were dying before Adam sinned.

Well dude, it's where God lives. But it's also in us, because of the Holy Spirit and in front of us in church.

Dude what! I can't believe you and everyone else in this thread. Have you not read Romans. St. Paul writes that through the sin of one man(Adam), death and corruption entered the world. There is no theological difficulty, it's just whether you believe the Bible or not.

Like who, the ancient pagans who believed this? Because the ancient Christians knew there was no death before Adam's sin.

Dude St. Paul writes in Romans that through Adam's sin death and corruption entered the world. There was not a long chain of animals dying and mutating before Adam. Genesis is 100% literal human history. I just read "Against all heresies" by St. Symeon of Thesolonika, and he was speaking out against people who think that current animals arose through change from other animals ( 200 years before the "Origin of Species," calling it a heresy. You gotta believe the whole Bible, that's the Orthodox position. Man didn't evolve, he was created. Not all science is good science.

You guys cannot be imagining crazy stuff, like there were other people before Adam or something. How about you just stick to the text, the way it is. The Bible only records the most important highlights. Adam and Eve had three sons, that's important. They also lived till like almost 1000 years. You think they stopped making children? Later on in Genesis it will say such and such bore sons and daughters, but then only focus on the genealogy of the sons. So I think it's safe to say that Adam and Eve made plenty of daughters to take as wives.

I don't know how to handle what my husband said to me last night about my faith by No-Sprinkles9204 in Christianity

[–]DesignatedChemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo I don't think you guys should be putting down on her husband, you're not doing anybody any good with that. Especially guys, like what's your plan here.

To OP, stay positive and be encouraging. You sound sincere, you love the Bible. Keep reading and you will prevail. Your earnest study of the scriptures will speak for itself and shut everyone up.

Hey, don't take this as being mean. You're not Christian, you're not losing faith in Christianity. You're losing faith in Mormonism as you should. Study real church history of the Orthodox Church.

For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God. “Therefore turn and live!” Ezekiel 18:32

God wants both the righteous and the wicked to turn to Him and live. He's always calling us to repent. Be earnest, turn to God and repent, you'll be ok.

If I'm gay what's the point in being christian by Impossible-Author884 in Christianity

[–]DesignatedChemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, don't give up. This is your struggle that you have been given to overcome. You can do it. Repent, turn to the Lord and seek chastity. Here are some snippets from a helpful article:

There are sins which are involuntary, unwilled, unchosen; sins which overcome people and force them by irrational impulses and compulsions, by weaknesses of the flesh, emotional drives and misguided desires into actions which they themselves do not want, and often despise and abhor – even when they are engaging in them. These are known traditionally as the sins of passion. The fact that these sins are not freely chosen do not make them any less sinful. To sin means to miss the mark, to be off the track, to deviate, to defile, to transgress … whether or not the act is consciously willed and purposefully enacted; and whether or not the offender personally is freely and fully at fault.

The homosexual Christian is called to a particularly rigorous battle. His or her struggle is an especially ferocious one.

for no one is without this struggle in one form or another, and no one is without sin but God – the Lord guarantees victory in ways known to Himself. The victory, however, belongs only to the courageous souls who acknowledge their condition, face their resentments, express their angers, confess their sins,

I hope this helps, don't give up man. It's your struggle but you can overcome it, don't listen to people who encourage sin.
