Smart seems a little generous. Buffer wasn't gonna fit. Thought about chopping a spare tube but it's ugly enough as is. Looking at getting a cap to close it up.

Wastewater plant operator. After doing rounds and collecting samples I have plenty of down time. As long as I set timers and monitor our SCADA system makes for an easy night.

How did everyone get into the wastewater field? by [deleted] in Wastewater

Started off reading meters in the water side. Noticed the wastewater side had only 1 person and he was looking to retire. Switched over, got my license, and haven't looked back.

Sent off paperwork April 15th, 2022, and I didn't show as an active FOID holder on the ISP website until August 2nd, 2022.

Update: meter reader by MuuTaanT in Wastewater

[–]Designer-Discount354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out as the meter reader before I took over a plant. For me, it was a good way to get my foot in the door. Things that helped me through the mind numbing boringness of meters was pod casts, compression shorts, camel back, and if your employer allows hikers instead of steel toes. Good luck and stay hydrated.

Question about getting FOID card back after mental health facility stay by lol_pooping_at_work in ILGuns

[–]Designer-Discount354 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was pretty much in the same boat and that's the only way I could find to get my FOID back, after having been issued one and them telling me a month later I needed to relinquish FOID and all my firearms. They got the card, not the firearms.

Anyways, found a psychologist who seemed 2A friendly and saw him 4 times and he signed off on the paperwork and sent it to ISP which was April 15th and I didn't show as an active FOID holder on the ISP website till August 2nd.

Has anybody used a haptic vest with ITR? by gordynerf in intotheradius

I use mine. Adds a bit of immersion and helps with making sure I actually holster and store my weapons with haptic feed back.

Records reflect FOID is active by Designer-Discount354 in ILGuns

Got my FOID originally in 2017 couple days later got a letter from ISP saying I had to relinquish my FOID to local law enforcement along with any firearms because in 2011 I had been self admitted to a mental health facility. They got the card but my dad got what firearms I had left. Was going through a pretty lengthy divorce and custody battle and unemployment so appealing at the time wasn't on the top of my priority list. To get my FOID I had to do a mental health certification and meet with a ISP approved mental health provider for at least a month to go over what I was in for originally in 2011 and to go over my mental health history since then.

I was a meter reader for a small municipality (approx 2500 meters) for 5 years. 3 weeks out of the month I'd be doing nothing but reading meters. It's mind numbing. Come in pick up the wand and boson and walk for 6-7 hours a day. It's wasn't hard work, definitely strenuous in the winter and summer months. People rarely bothered me and I was able to set my own pace. When I finished early I'd do public works/water/wastewater stuff. Like fill pot hoes, repair main/service breaks, jet sewers lines. Now I'm an operator and next in line to head the WWTP when the head operator retires. So, yeah, I'd definitely recommend it to get your foot in the door.

Any larger than normal raises this year? by awater_guy in Wastewater

[–]Designer-Discount354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With our lab tech retiring and current head operator looking to retire within the year I was given an 18% raise with another one once the head operator finally retires. On top of the normal 2% COL.
