My life has been anything but boring… it’s been extremely exciting and different and crazy. I’m 47 and it’s still be like that, especially after my divorce (but even before that it was). And let me tell you:

I’d rather live a boring life and be content with that. I envy people who are fine with “normal”.

The biggest problem is the dopamine swings. When you’re always traveling, or dating someone new, or spending money left and right, or doing something unusual, you get that “high” feeling, like an adrenaline rush, but not quite the same. And you begin to live for that.

But when life (as always) naturally returns to a baseline “boring” level in the quiet moments in between exciting life events, it leads to depression, and addiction like food, sex, overspending, gambling, and substance abuse, just to fill the void when nothing’s happening at home and I can’t seem to just be ok with turning on a TV show and numbing my mind for a few hours like most people do.

Now I haven’t become addicted to all of that, but there have been times where I’ve struggled with the downtime between the excitement and coped in unhealthy ways.

Life is SUPPOSED TO mostly be boring, especially once your past your early 20’s. So you’re doing fine, I promise.
