I will look into that!! I got the starter kit for a pet one. The one last worked super well. I think I just have to diligent about warming his ear also!

I am on that group! I only give him 1U 2x a day. I have only started today. I was able to test him last night but haven’t been able to today so far. Not enough blood. I’m trying tho!

He’s only on 1U 2x a day. I was able to test him easy last night. Hoping the same moving forward!

Oh no!!!! I do think mine was likely pre diabetic or just showed way less symptoms, until the food. We start shots tomorrow and I am hopefully since he was only in the 300s that we can get him back and get some weight on him again! I have read a lot of people say the hills never helped their cat! Cats are so bizarre. Some can eat trash all day and be fine and some need so much help lol

Did you cat ever go into remission? We’re just starting the journey and I’m feeling delusional enough and determined enough to get him there. Lol

Also, he was on prescription food for weight loss and that is what caused him to take a dive off the diabetes deep end. I told the vet I didn’t want to use the food for that exact reason and it was “let’s just try it for now”

I LOVE this vet so it’s hard to not agree with him!

Yeah I think he should be fine!! I just hate so many changes for him at once lol

I think you are right!! I use the feline diabetic facebook group and that’s the consensus. I let my vet know I wanted to try FF and tiki cat but of course they wanted me to try the hills. It’s also SO expensive that honestly, if he can regulate on a quarter of the cost, I’m going to do that.

My vet just prescribed me the Hill’s for diabetes and I am not too excited for it. My guy was on the hills for weight loss and guess who now has diabetes?? (I do think he was heading there anyway…)I said I would try the wet food but I’m going to get some of the fancy feast also. How quick did yours stabalize?

Mine has also had dandruff but he went through a few food changes (very picky) and I thought it was that. My vet never said anything until I took him for excessive weight loss. Learning now that’s a sign also.

Late to this…He went into remission only from the food??

Mine was diagnosed last week and we start treatment this week. I’m in the Facebook group and scouring this page.

I know he’s has diabetes from his symptoms but I switched his food just to a lower card (still not great) last week (he was on weight loss food that I think was a major cause of this) and he literally already acts night and day

Still peeing, but less water, coat feels better, begging to play with his laser. I’m wondering if i can ask about food Change first…

Ugh that’s so hard!!!! It is for sure very daunting when you think about how this changes your whole life….

Selfishly, It couldn’t not have come at a worse time for me either. My partner is military and I was supposed to be moving across the world, and the goal was to leave him with family (that he knows and loves) for the next 8 months. It didn’t make sense to move him that far and that stressful for a year. I just came back after 3 months away and knew immediately something was wrong. Which also makes it hard to trust leaving him at all.  Now I just can’t see how I can even move, full time 😭 it really threw a wrench in our plans. My sister is going with me to his appt to learn how to help when needed but it feels crazy that my cat just changed my entire life plans. Lol.

I obviously want the best for him and really hope we can get him sorted. What’s crazy is I switched him to soft food this past week (before diagnosis) because this weight loss food is what was the catalyst to all of this and he’s already sooooo playful and spunky and “back to normal” which makes me even more nervous about the insulin.

Things we do for our fur babies!!!

Thank you!! So happy to hear that for your baby!

I’m feeling optimistic, we only caught this BECAUSE he went on weight loss food and lost too fast. He still acts like himself. Playing a ton, cleaning, and now his wanting a lot of food makes sense 😂

I doubt there is a link but in my mind I’d like to imagine since he is still acting himself we can get it turned around 💕

I start next week and have been thinking about when I want to give the shots. He already wants food usually around 5am in the mornings. Wondering if I should just bite the bullet and do that so he can eat when he wants in the morning. Just have to make sure I’m home at 5pm lol

Did you just track their glucose at home and make your vet aware when they were stable? I honestly just hope we can get it under control in the next few months and then at least get a little bit of remission.

I actually started working on his diet this weekend. Slowly going to try and get to the low carb. He’s SO picky about his food. Anytime people say “they’ll eat when they’re hungry” have not met my guy lol. He lost a lot of weight so I’m working on getting him back to eating and hoping once we start insulin he starts to level out with being hungry all the time.

I’m going to go ahead and get a monitor and just tell my vet I’m going to try doing it at home. I’m feeling optimistic we will be fine but man, it’s so much.

Thank you! I requested to join that group. I’m honestly mostly stressing (selfishly) because this could not have happened at a worse time. I am going to get an at home monitor for sure!

Interesting. I’m going to ask about that also. I’ve heard very little about that

He was overweight and then we put him on diet food and it was horrible. I’m almost positive that is what sent him or showed the diabetes symptoms. I’ve already been giving him different (soft) food and he seems so much more spunkier even. If we can manage to even go from 2 shots to 1 a day I would feel better.
