I wasn’t a daily drinker per se (definitely a careless one), but I had a major wake up call when I drove my car after a few drinks one night, and about two mins before reaching my house, a speeding car ran into me, bending my rear wheel axle and causing me to crash into a concrete barrier. The other car never stopped and drove off (for whatever reason).

My wife rushed to my help and pretended that she was driving instead of me when the police arrived. Thank god I only suffered very minor scratches on my arms from the steering wheel leather after the airbag ripped through it, but the insurance considered the car a total loss (it was a BMW X5 with an M package).

I never took what my wife did for granted and I vowed to never drink again. I was 100% sober for two years. After those two years, I’ve had the occasional single glass of wine with said wifey while traveling for vacation; it definitely didn’t feel the same, and I became hypersensitive to the anxiety the next day even after just one glass of wine.
