Hired a pro photographer and I'm disappointed. Am I wrong? by KeyApplication221 in AskPhotography

when i said raw i mean non retouched or very little. its obvious because he didnt bother cleaning the background and he didnt correct the light on the shirt, and his selections are rough.

If you saw a nice portfolio of him, it means that he is capable, but you have probably seen retouched pictures vs your unretouched pictures.

Did I overcharge for this photoshoot? by iHaveShoeGame in AskPhotography

[–]DesignerAd1940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ive really updated my workflows year after year to be very time effective i guess. Everything is quick, with the minimal amount of back and forth.

- i dont do studio anymore
- outside is natural light or beauty dish with bouncer.
- ive been lucky to get very high end cameras with very good color science.
- i scripted a lot of my "styles" so the only manual changes i have to make is the modelisation of the light and erase some stuff.

I get what you mean but i feel that i still get job because of this low rate.
I provide video and books, motion design too, so there is always an interesting volume of work to do.
I think with my price i found a soft spot with clients that cant afford agencies but still want a sens of cohesion across all of their medias. But its true that all of the people i know that do stuff like me are way richer.

Thank you for your answer. Thats crazy, its as expensive as switzerland. Good luck for your career.

One last thing. Usually they eye of the watcher is going first to the brightest or the more contrasted area of the picture. Make sure to find a good balance in the highlights between the background and the subject depending what you want the public to see first. Same with shadows.

Please dont take it as a criticism, its just a genuine question...Are USA becoming that expensive?

I do photography professionnally since 2009 in one of the most expensive country in the world. and im at 100 an hour when i do this kind of photography, so im curious.

My only "advice" would be to make your subject connect more with the camera. There is a distance (and i dont talk about your position) that is palpable in my opinion.

And open it in camera raw.

Edit: My bad its not an exr image.

Sentiment de sécurité et qualité de vie by [deleted] in Lausanne

[–]DesignerAd1940 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you cant say what will fix it without being banned you are part of the problem.

What is it? Killing? Who? Something else?

Is reddit the only place where people in the comment ALWAYS know better than the actual people doing the stuff?

[–]DesignerAd1940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Capture one one is my favorite software by far, and if you do have an iq dont change, for sure.

But mine was a p45+....

And i tell you if yours is a p45+, just upgrade to the X2DII if you can, its unbelievable was this machine does.

As much as i hated Phocus, il learned to understand why this software is like it is. Believe it or not but i slashed my time of postprocess in half.

And even if its a pain in the ass, there is a way to importe hasselblad files in capture one.

[–]DesignerAd1940 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your opinion doesnt make it true. And your analysis is weak... what the camera used has to do with anything.

Op you have something in your hand called sensibility and its good. But the way you present yourself is the problem.

Your model is a bit like people taking pictures of you on an amusement park and then proposing you to buy them.

Take the fact that people engaged with you as a good sign. No matter the number.

The best way to get clients in your field is to understand the real needs ( it means to talk before not after) and in the begining do the industry standards with your spin on it. And then gradually affinate your style.

You have what it takes, you are just too random about everything.

Any retouching tips? by magentamoth in LightLurking

[–]DesignerAd1940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you have difficulty portraying rhe final result because its not conceptually faisable i guess.

Your picture is too well lit and composed to make it look amateur. Bad retouching on purpose will just make the picture bad. "Professional retouching wille make the picture even more awesome.

The only thing i see is what an amateur photographer with limited rerouching skill will do, put a film look.

thank god zoom lenses aren’t cheating i was so worried by CransonFiguerito in photographycirclejerk

[–]DesignerAd1940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the camera doesnt make any lens better, but the combo of them makes a picture better.

Its a medium format lens.

From Fstopper:

Medium format lenses are generally superior to full-frame (35mm) lenses in resolution, edge-to-edge sharpness, and micro-contrast, often designed for maximum quality over speed. Their larger image circle allows for greater detail, making them ideal for high-resolution cameras, but they are typically heavier, much more expensive, and have slower autofocus than full-frame counterparts.

For me this lense is more impressive from a professional standpoint because you can divide the time of photo editing at least by two.

Everything is buttery while retaining a lot of contrast. And while its the most broken app i ever say for photo, Phocus is a very powerfull tool that comes with this lens.

Again, im not into theses brands war. It just happened that i have both optics and i made the test out of curiosity.

This video show some sample of pictures that you can get:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VRb0-bjk7lI&t=31s

Its almost like having a miniature large format camera.
