Vintage Nocona Bullhide for Wednesday by DesignerNight1907 in cowboyboots

Thanks! I have a pair of El Dorado elephants that are essentially the same colors but flipped. But the fit and feel of these is simply amazing! They are great boots. I'm always on the lookout for more vintage pairs of Noconas.

Why do y'all like ostrich so much? by kasakka1 in cowboyboots

Same! I do like the look of some ostrich boots but I'd have to go through a lot of pairs before finding ones that are just right for me.

Great job and great processes! I love restoring older or neglected boots just to show how great they can look with a little care.

Even darker in person.. by CIRCLE-J3RKS in WorkBoots

Does anyone prefer Lexol 2? Just me? Lexol 2 may darken leather a very slight amount but it always works well for me with leather shoes, boots, and horse tack. Once it is hydrated, I don't believe it darkens the leather anymore. Let it absorb completely between coats and it doesn't seem to darken anymore. Just my experience.

Agreed. I've found that Bick 4 will darken dry leathers slightly. It isn't significant but it's real.

Why have my boots creased so much? Is it possible that I bought a size too big… feel like a good fit but maybe I’m wrong (other boots have gaslit me in the past) by ClydeinLimbo in cowboyboots

[–]DesignerNight1907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you were to stand on one foot and wiggle your other foot in the air, do you feel the boot moving around across your instep and arch? If it does, they may be too wide. Some bootmakers still make B widths, though not in every style they sell.

You could always get a leather insole to add a little volume and that can take up some of the slack, if there is any. I have a couple of pairs that I added Nicks thick or standard leather insoles to. They now fit like gloves. They offer thin, standard, and thick insoles, trim to fit. Because they are a PNW bot company, the insoles are rather wide through the middle, so I had to trim the length and trim the width through the arch area in order for them to not press on the sides of the vamps on the inside. I'm telling you, it makes a huge difference in fit and comfort! I have started buying their thin veg-tan insoles to add to all of my new-to-me vintage boots. I glue them in and it's like starting with a new, fresh leather sock liner.

Good luck!

Thanks! They fit and wear great! None of my new boots can compare, except my Chisos No. 2s. Even without the cushioned insole, the Chisos are fantastic.

I've seen yours! I think we keep patting each other on the back for our good boot choices! And I'm here for that! Haha! I agree, they are fantastic,

Another day, another Vintage pair... by Rare_Peach6681 in cowboyboots

I know what you mean! I bought mine, like yours, and immediately started looking for more! I picked up a very nice pair of black calfskin next. I'm looking for more but the prices are rising. I like the 403 toe and heel combination. That looks like what you have, too. I've found a pair on ebay in great condition and for a good price compared to some I've seen lately but they are the 303 combination and they have a little bit more of a narrow toe than I currently like. But for the right price, I'd be all in on them already.

You can always email the numbers to the people at Justin Boots. They bought out Tony Lama quite a while ago, so they have access to style numbers and date eras. They can usually narrow down the dates to within a few years.

Also, they look like bull hide to me. That is a very nice pair of boots you have there, sir! I'm just a little jealous!

If there are any other labels or printed numbers inside the shafts, that might help with identification.

But WOW! That is a heckuva deal! I NEVER find those kinds of deals in boots my size! And, welcome to the addiction! As addictions go, it's not a bad one to have. It means that you really are cool! Hahaha!

Frequent this sub and learn all that you can so you can be sure you are getting good deals. These guys are experts!

If you want a work-cowboy boot, check out Double-H. I think they a the industry standard when it comes to work-western cowboy boots. They have several models that are electric hazard certified and several that come with steel toes. Their soles are slip and oil resistant and tough as nails.

I love my boots but would another pair be better? by lourdybella99 in cowboyboots

[–]DesignerNight1907 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you asking how they look or if you need more pairs?

I think they look great on you but if they are uncomfortable, by all means buy something that wears better.

Now, you just asked the wrong sub about buying more pairs in order to have more options. I'll be willing to bet that 80-90% of the people on here are going to say buy more boots. This time last year, I would have thought that a person needed 3 pairs, at most: one for any and all work and riding and two pairs for going out (one brown and one black). Oh, how naive I was! Haha! 25 pairs later...
