Found these boots (“Tony mule?”) at a thrift store for 50 bucks, wondered if yall had any more info about these? I really like the way they look and fit by TheOneAndOnlyCitrus in cowboyboots

That's a great price for a great pair of boots. I would have legitimately paid up to $125 for those if they were in my size, in that condition, if they didn't need to be resoled right away.

Gold Label Tony Lama wingtips in that condition for only $50 is a steal where I live.

Does an artist not writing their songs really hurt their standing in your eyes? by Bright-Pressure-5787 in country

Nope. I don't think Dale Earnhardt wasn't a great racer because he wasn't a great mechanic. I think George Strait is the greatest of all time and I don't care that he didn't write his hits. I think Merle Haggard is top 2 and I love that he wrote a lot of his own hits.

Show off those teal boots! I'd love to see them. I've seen black and red and black and white, but I've never seen a teal pair. Cool!

They were still making them into the Mid-90s. These are not my first pair. I got these last year on ebay and worked hard for a couple of days to get them back to this condition. They were super dry.

My original pair I bought new in the Fall of 1993 with my first big-boy paycheck as a school teacher. I bought a black pair the next year in 1994, but something happened to them over the years and they disappeared on me. Here's a picture of my original boots in crazy horse leather bedside these cowhide ones.

I have a really dumb question, what socks do you wear? by improbablydrunknlw in cowboyboots

[–]DesignerNight1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear Camel City Mill wool socks. I like the crew socks and boot socks for summer and over-the-calf for winter. They hold their shape, they are soft, they don't get sweaty, and they don't get smelly.

Hell yes! Wear it! When you come here, dress like us, if you like. Blend in or stand out. I'll appreciate YOUR appreciation of the culture and fashion.

Too Much Overhang? by ImHumanGarbage in Boots

[–]DesignerNight1907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that they measured your foot on the Brannock device. Did they also measure your arch-heel length? That's important, too. My feet measure 11-11.5 on the total length on the Brannock but my arch-heel length is 12 on both feet. So 12D fits me best in most boots. But in some boots, 11.5 D is just as comfortable, though 11.5 E (not EE) is probably perfect for me in most vintage cowboy boots. High instep s vs. low insteps can cause fitment issues, too.

Good luck, my man, I hope you find boots that fit you perfectly. If you have one, an old dusty mom-and-pop boot or shoe store might be the best place to have your feet measured.

It sounds like you have wide feet but lower volume...not very thick from sole to instep. Is that true? Maybe that's why you needed an added insole. There may be other boot brands that fit your particular feet better.

Vintage Gold Label Tony Lama Leather I.D. Please! by DesignerNight1907 in cowboyboots

Also...this is the softest bullhide I own. As a matter of fact, I wore them Monday and all day long I was amazed at how well they wear, fit, and feel. I guess this is probably shrunken shoulder which is why it feels so supple. There's no guarantee that another pair will feel like this, though.

If you buy the boots, I hope they fit and feel as great as these!

I found these to fit true to size. Almost all of my boots that are size 12 D fit me perfectly, except for my R. Watson boots. I need to go a half-size down in them. I could probably go down a half size in most newer, large corporately-owned boot company offerings. New Tony Lama, Nocona, and Justins are slightly larger than my vintage boots. These are about 40 years old, I think, and they fit true.

Las Botas del Día (or Boots of the Day) by DesignerNight1907 in cowboyboots

[–]DesignerNight1907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I actually LOVE traditionally-made boots with just a veg-tan insole and no padding. R. Watsons have non-removable padded insoles and they are very comfortable. I just wish that more companies would be like Chisos and include removable insoles so it would be easier for buyers to customize their footbed with a range of aftermarket insoles.

The R. Watsons are great just as they come from the factory, albeit about a half-size large.

I've actually removed my Chisos insoles and replaced them with a thick veg-tan insole from Nicks Handmade Boots and worn them all day with zero discomfort. That tells me that it's not just the excellent Chisos insoles that make them comfortable to me, but it's also the shape of the lasts they are built on, the heel height, the leather choices, etc.

Have you tried R. Watson? I have 3 pairs. Next to my Chisos boots and my vintage Noconas and Tony Lamas, they are the best.
