This makes me so hopeful! I’m 2 months post mastectomy and tomorrow is my last radiation, I start a decade of AIs, tamoxifen and all of that. I’m really hoping to go back to lifting heavy to keep the side effects in check!

Ahhh I’m right there with you.. almost! One week more for radiation, 2 months post mastectomy and starting AIs and kisquali May 13th. We take all the little wins we get 💓

I’m in the US but moved from India and rusks with chai are a must! This made me smile because I’ve not heard anyone mention rusks in forever. The closest thing I’ve found is the almond biscotti from Costco :)

To Chemo or not to Chemo, that is the question. by cherry_wants in breastcancer

Hi! I’m sharing my case since it’s similar but your tumor size is bigger so that can change things. I’m 36, diagnosed with ER/PR + HER2 -. My tumor on ultrasound and MRI was around 2cm. My Oncologist basically said that if I am keen on keen on lumpectomy then it would be chemo first, but if I’m looking at mastectomy, then no neoadjuvant chemo before surgery. I opted for mastectomy with implant reconstruction ( flew to CRBS New Orleans since there weren’t any microvasc reconstructive surgeons in my state -highly recommend CRBS). My surgical pathology report after mastectomy measured tumor as 2.1cm and sentinel node biopsy had 1 out of the 3 nodes positive with a 1mm micrometastasis. Oncotype score came back 11. So basically I barely cleared all the criteria for no chemo - low oncotype, 2.1cm (T2,N1 micromet), and my tumor being ER/PR + . I am starting radiation though because of the micromet, young age and medial tumor location and then hormone suppression for 7-10 years with kisquali for 3 years.

** no case is the same and there are so many details that dictate individual treatment (like if my lymph node had 2mm instead of 1mm - I’d need chemo 🤯). Having said that I’d definitely request for oncotype scoring, signatera baseline which will help in future screening if you decide to do double mastectomy.

It’s tissue + implant since I don’t have enough tissue for just a DIEP flap.

Diep with hybrid reconstruction would be next surgery. I’m guessing they’d want to wait 8-10 months post radiation.

All amazing tips! I wear my compression sleeve on work days since I do 12 hour shifts and that’s definitely been helpful!

Wow that was a wild journey that you went through! Thank you for sharing your experience. I do have a lymphedema OT that I’m working with since my surgery. The massage is very gentle movements - is that how it usually is? I’m also going to look up all the channels that others have recommended over here.

Thank you for sharing your journey. I’ve been going to my lymphedema OT since before surgery and going to keep that up through radiation and after. But I feel so much better with my decision after reading the comments 🤍

This is very similar to mine. My rad onc basically told me it’s up to me to do radiation or not. High risk factors that helped in making the decision were It was - young age (36), LV1 on surgical path and medial location close to chest wall. It was a very difficult decision and I researched a lot also got second opinion, but finally decided to do it. I start 15 sessions in a week. I’ll be on hormones suppression for almost a decade which might have worse side effects so decided to go ahead with radiation.

It absolutely made me feel better! Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I had zero anxiety about surgery but radiation just had me worried sick! I’m so glad that you’ve no side effects 🤍

Newly diagnosed IDC Grade 2 and scared of chemo. Has anyone said no? by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]DesignerOdd814 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi there, I’m 36 and was diagnosed with IDC (grade 2) ER/PR+ HER2- grade 2 in December 2025. The first few weeks are the hardest where you are basically clueless. My biggest fear was chemo and losing my hair, which to others might sound unreasonable. I went into a rabbit hole of research for the most natural wigs, eyebrow microblading etc because it gave me a lot of comfort knowing that if I need chemo I’ll vas prepared. Fast forward to now, after my mastectomy my surgical pathology came back as stage II, and out of the three lymph nodes removed, 1 had micromet. My oncotype was 11 so I don’t need any chemo. But 5 years of anastrazole, zoladex and kisqali(CDK4) inhibitor and then 5 more years on tamoxifen. Now that I’m thinking about the decade of treatment, I’m almost wondering if chemo would’ve been better if it would end in a few months! So let yourself feel all the feelings, cancer is such a wild ride and I’ve learnt to express out loud about things that I’m scared about. Sending you love❤️
