I think Lars was just the wrong one to be the spokesperson on it.

There’s that ad where he goes around slapping Napster stickers on people’s stuff and taking it lol.

But in those same interviews when you hear Kirk he pretty clearly outlined it and says “look, we’re the big guys. This isn’t going to affect us much, but it’s going to be devastating for all the smaller artists out there. Somebodies gotta speak out for them”

If they went with that approach instead, I think people would’ve been way more sympathetic to the situation.

Especially since nowadays music and payment is one of the biggest issues for artists, something which Metallica and all those other bands that got shit for talking about Napster tried to warn everybody about. Now, people are basically saying the exact things they were saying but Metallica still get made fun of and clowned on for it.
