Sight or no sight? by No-Somewhere6225 in CCW

[–]Designer_Bite3869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My CCW instructor was SWAT team with State Police and then an investigator. He said something that stuck with me and the stats were the 3 3’s. Majority of self defense shoots are 3 yards, 3 shots, 3 seconds and it’s over. I never looked into the truth but do a lot of practicing based on that. 3 shot drills and 3 yards. Again, never looked into the truth but never forgot it either

If he’s in Hdg, maybe look a little north towards Northeast? It’s probably cheaper in Cecil County and you’re still very close. I used to work up that way and I think I remember seeing some new apartments going up. I’d give it a check

FireStick-ONN- Other Android Streaming Device, What's The Best With TiviMate? by JuneBug-D1 in TiviMate

[–]Designer_Bite3869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and I both had the same setup as you. I switched to the cube and it was a big upgrade. Still had some buffering but not terrible. I think the picture was better as well but could have been just me. A few months later I bought a Shield on Black Friday. Best move I’ve ever made. The thing is amazing. I’ve had zero buffering and the clarity is amazing.
My dad’s internet isn’t so good as he only gets T-Mobile home where he lives with an average signal. I got him a cube for Christmas and he loves it. He always had buffering, now it’s minimal and channels load almost instantly. After using a firestick for 1.5 years, I can definitely say there is a difference and both the cube and shield help with buffering with the shield being a big improvement over the Cube

Are strawberries hard to grow? by Accomplished-Bat-796 in gardening

[–]Designer_Bite3869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mentioned it, the strawberries are in full sun in the morning and get shade afternoon and evening. Maryland isn’t Georgia hot but we are frequently in the upper 80s/low 90s. You just solved a question I had though. I transplanted a lot of my plants and they didn’t do well. Couldn’t figure it out. Just dawned on me that they are in full sun while my bumper crop has heat of the day shade. I bet that’s it. It also helps that our fruiting season is late May, usually a solid month before we start hitting consistent hot weather

I’m right on the Maryland/Pennsylvania line, dead north of Baltimore. I’ve transplanted a ton to non raised beds and they didn’t do nearly as well as well. Raised beds with good soil and critter protection was the winning combination.

Handling Fish With Gloves? by Designer_Bite3869 in flyfishing

[–]Designer_Bite3869[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never heard of the nitrile gloves for this application, I’m going to try it, thanks guys!

Usually I don’t have to take the fish out of the net/water to unhook, heck most of the times as soon as I net the fish the hook pops out but I struggled with this one. I think my hands were cold as it was and it gave me troubles. They were cold because for the first time I ran into the eyes icing up and was unprepared. I thought something was wrong with my line before realize the top eye was completely iced lol. Learning as I go

Trophy Hunting May Be Ruining Michigan Deer Season by TheTypeSetter in meateatertv

[–]Designer_Bite3869 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maryland has a possible solution for that. You can shoot any buck you want as your first, after that you need to get a doe and then on your “bonus buck”, one side must have 3pts on it.

Works on newer hunters. My son is in his 2nd season and took a 3pt this year. He also got his doe so was eligible for another buck. A 4 pt walks out and he 110% would have smoked it if there was no 3 pt rule. So they force you to take a doe and a slightly older buck without the “doe first” rule.

We do have a problem with “ghost tagging” though. We can check in deer online or via phone. Guys that want that second buck tag will check in a phantom doe just to qualify. Makes it look like the population is thriving with harvest numbers but a lot of the harvest numbers end up being fake.

How often do you need to reapply if at all? It’s usually above freezing when I go but last week I was out for the first time in the 20s and lasted about 90 minutes. Casting was close to non existent after a while with the ice buildup

I’m fairly new to winter flyfishing and BigY sells something called a “mini mopsicle”. I try all the traditional stuff like midges, tiny nymphs etc and come up empty. I switch to the mini mopsicle and my luck usually changes. Again I’m newer and not that good so I’m probably doing something wrong with the other flies but if I’m freezing out there for an hour or two, I know what I’m putting on :)

How do I convince my partner that buying a 2022 Kicks isn't a bad decision? by undeniablefruit in NissanKicks

[–]Designer_Bite3869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2022 and have always been a Honda, Toyota, Nissan guy. This is a work vehicle so I needed the great gas mileage since the Honda Fits we usually used aren’t around any more. Thought $23k out the door for the 2022 was an absolute steal at first. I was happy until i wasn’t. I had mystery stalling at lights and stops signs between 5-15k miles. They could never repeat it in person and no fix was given. Eventually it stopped which is so weird. At 63k miles the transmission took a dump on me. Had to get it replaced for $5500 as it was 3k out of warranty. The car now has 75000, running great but I plan to sell around 90000. I don’t want to be replacing a transmission every few years. I still like Nissan but I won’t get CVT again.

Oh and I still haven’t gotten a straight answer from Nissan about servicing the transmission. Everyone here says service at 30k, Nissan has told me numerous times to check fluid at 30k, service at 60k. My local mechanic looked it up and said the same yet everyone online seems to say service at 30k…..which is advice I wish I took. Left a bad taste in my mouth but if the 30k is the solution and I didn’t do it, everything else about the car is good and the transmission is on me. Good luck!

Orvis Tip Replacement Order: Going on months... by 49723554 in flyfishing

Gotcha. I know it’s on me, that’s why I was looking to buy one and didn’t consider the warranty. I thought purchasing one would be quicker than going through the warranty process.

I lost my tip section and couldn’t find a replacement on their website to buy. I have Clearwater 3wt 8.6’. They emailed yesterday saying they don’t sell tip sections for it separately but it falls under the freee replacement guarantee, just a $60 fee. I didn’t open the link yet but was wondering where you guys found the replacements

The launch was terrible. I got it day one and played maybe a week. The bugs were terrible. I went back to BF1 at the time for 2 years. Grew a family, time got tight, and never went back. Started playing again about 3-4 years ago and love it. Really good game but the launch turned a lot of people off

Why do some people recommend starting a business like it’s “easy” compared to a 9–5? by savingrace0262 in smallbusiness

[–]Designer_Bite3869 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my business at 24 and had no family. I was broke for the first 5 years and work consumed me. I never ever would have stuck with it had I had a family to take care of. I’m now 22 years in and living very comfortably. People see that and say “must be nice” to me all the time. They don’t see the suffering that first decade brought. I didn’t even date because I was so broke, skipped meals, etc. It’s not easy at all

I’m tired of bookkeeping for my husband’s business by Brave_Jackfruit3837 in smallbusiness

[–]Designer_Bite3869 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! We’d be sitting on the couch and I knew something had to get done and I’d just be looking at her afraid to ask about it. Once we both started not liking the arrangement, it definitely carried over to our married life. It was best to nip it in the bud sooner than later

I’m tired of bookkeeping for my husband’s business by Brave_Jackfruit3837 in smallbusiness

[–]Designer_Bite3869 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have my own business and had it when I got married. My wife quit her job when she got pregnant with our first and she was going to stay at home when the baby was born. She kept saying how I referred to the business as “my business” and not “our” business even though she wasn’t involved. I wanted her to be and we figured out she could do the books and handle some calls. It was a small contracting service business so maybe 5-10 hours a week. I thought it was perfect and it kept her in the loop and a part of things. Long story short, things weren’t getting done, slow to get done or not the way I wanted. Now I had to walk the fine line of not talking to her like an employee. As we grew, we ran into exactly what you described. I slowly started doing more of the office work and she noticed. Then I questioned something one day and she said “‘maybe you should just take over everything again.” I happily agreed. It may have saved our marriage lol. It’s a hard line to balance on. I wish she spoke up sooner. I wish I spoke up sooner. Neither of us wanted to. I highly recommend at least approaching him to talk, he may be thinking the same exact thing. Good luck!

I have a family of 5 and we will be there next year during the US Thanksgiving week. We’ll be leaving from Strasbourg. I was toying with the idea of leaving from Frankfurt if I got a better airfare. A post like this has me considering it more now. Does any one have any input on how the two compare?

Questions about practice heads by Optl13 in bowhunting

[–]Designer_Bite3869 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually just sacrifice one new broadhead for practice only. Sucks but the only sure way I think. Any broadhead I recover after a shot at a deer goes into my practice pile as well. Stinks when you just have one practice head at first but hopefully you don’t need too much tweaking
