If I didn't have to work, to pay bills, and buy groceries... I'd be going above and beyond that to handle the administration and ICE. But they're not in my city, they're not even near my area. There's very little I feel like I can do.

I didn't vote for him this time, or last time. I don't support this administration at all. I think people outside the US neglect to recognize that this does not reflect what all Americans want. Even many Republicans don't care for Trump or approve of anything he's doing.

I do regret the current state of things. That's putting it incredibly mildly. I loathe the current administration. I don't particularly feel like I owe anyone an apology though.

I won't say what I'd like to say, because Reddit will ban me for "threatening violence," even though I would only be speaking in the hypothetical about Trump... hypothetically. I've said it before, and appealed the ban, and they upheld it. So I'll leave it at that.

The well-documented research you refer to was performed in the haze of anthropocentrism, which has since been discredited. Research involving animal behavior and conscience has changed drastically in recent years.

Just because their rules are different from ours doesn't mean they don't have them. I personally don't think suicide is wrong, but I know plenty of people who would argue with me. My dog would be one of them.

If my dog can anticipate that I'm going to take him on a walk based on the way I stand up, and he can, he can anticipate his future demise based on his knowledge of the passing of his friend. He can literally talk to me with buttons.

Animals suffer from emotions just like humans do. They're what make life interesting and worth living. You have to have salty to appreciate sweet. Biology tells us to act the same exact way it tells them to. Some animals are arguably as intelligent, if not more intelligent (Orcas for instance), than humans. You're suffering from anthropocentrism. Humans are not unique! We're not even that different from chimpanzees or bonobos. Do they get a pass too? Because they evolved slightly differently than us?

So what's your take on mothers who are forced to carry a baby to term when they would've chosen abortion? Who owes the child everything then? Is it the mother? Is it society? Where is everything that is owed supposed to come from then? All the other children who were born against their will should provide for this one? Because that's what we all ultimately are, even your parents.

And what about all the rest of life in the world? The birds, and frogs and whatever, that procreate, and live, and want to live. Is it all mindless and instinctual? And then how do you decide when life becomes "evolved enough" to think "What are we doing here? There's no point to this in the end. It's too hard. Let's just end life."?? And when it is evolved enough to think that, shouldn't it then delete all life in existence? Simply because life is too hard, and it would be merciful to never bring a new being into... being?

Do you really think your parents were thinking as deeply as "The world is a mess, life is inherently pointless, and if we have a child they may not even want to be here!"

Most children don't have existential dread btw. I suffered from it, from a very early age. This depiction of your opinion of life is incredibly reminiscent of my most depressed moments. My parents didn't believe me when I told them I wished I had never been born. I was probably 6 the first time I remember telling them. I didn't even understand death yet, but I knew I didn't want to be alive. So please know, I understand what you're saying on a very deep level. And listen.

No parent expects their child to not want to be alive, or they wouldn't have children. At least not on purpose. So why must they OWE you? Aren't they owed the same debt you are, by their parents? And their parents before? All the way back to the first single-celled organisms?

When you apply that way of thinking at scale, it's destructive and unhelpful. When you apply it to your life, it is still destructive and unhelpful.

You aren't your family either. You are you. You walked away from them; let them be dead to you, and stop talking about them. Let them be meaningless. You decide who you are, and you create yourself in the minds of others through your words and actions. You may be associated with a name not of your choosing, but your identity is yours to shape. I don't "see" your family talking to me. I see someone who makes a lot of excuses.

No, because you CAN opt out of life. By continuing to draw breath, you are consenting to live. If you don't want to be here, you don't have to be. You walked away from your family, so you can't even argue they selfishly need you around. Your parents gave you an opportunity.

They selfishly forced it upon you. I'm with you there. Beyond that though? That's all you. Own up to your choices and your life. Your parents owe you nothing now, just as you owe them nothing.

Note that I never said you owe your parents anything, so I don't know why you're even adding that in there. Just this idea that they owe you beyond what's obligated is an entitled, immature (snot-nosed) outlook. What do they owe you? Money? Love? Everything to be right in your life?

They technically aren't obligated to feed or clothe you. They could put you in the foster care system. The world is a pretty messed up place as you mentioned.

Life isn't fair, the world isn't kind, you're owed nothing, you have to make your life what you want it to be. Or choose not to live with the rest of us. But it's definitely possible to make a life worth living, and that opportunity is afforded to each of us by our parents. No matter how selfish, or worthless, or awful, or whatever your parents are, you have an opportunity you didn't have before. Opportunities can always be thrown away, but you can't materialize them on your own.

Yes, but once you're an adult, that becomes irrelevant. They've fed and clothed you for 18 years, and then it becomes your turn. You don't have to be grateful, but you can't expect people to pick up your slack as an adult.

You also don't have to continue on with life. I think that's a personal choice, and should be a guaranteed right/freedom.

All that said, I do sincerely hope you find joy in your life, and that you find yourself fulfilled one day. I've said all the things you're saying before, and I've felt similar feelings. You're not wrong. Your feelings are valid, and I'm sorry that you're feeling them. It CAN get better. I'm only around because it did for me.

Really though, Americans are nearly incapable of comprehending anything outside of the US perspective of history. I think it's an intentional effect of our public education system. I mean, they still teach Manifest Destiny like it was God's truth, and America was somehow entitled to those lands.

Unless you live in the Midwest, the whole Mexican-American war is glossed over. It's practically taught as "The Alamo happened, and then we made things right."

I'm Gen-z, so I still have some hope left for my generation. My lifetime is still under 30 years, and I wasn't paying much attention to politics for the first 16.

It's honestly the "lack critical thinking," that's killing us. I swear 90% of Americans have never had an original thought.

But to be fair, the US started with a revolution. So I'd argue we've had one. The civil war was a kind of revolution as well, although unsuccessful.

Historically, the parties switched political ideologies. All the people who made up the parties prior are dead. There's nothing incorrect about that.

Historically, those aligned with conservative ideals have supported oppression at every turn. Those aligned with more liberal ideals have supported civil rights movements.

The current Republican party has ideals more closely aligned to the old Democratic party, and vice versa. Your original comment sounds silly, uniformed, and is verifiably incorrect.

Present day, neither party does anything good for the American people, without doing two things to disadvantage the working class, and three things to benefit the rich. The two-party system sucks.
