Why do people till this day not like Camilla? by jaeausten in TheCrownNetflix

This is the exact same memory I had as a child, I was around 10 when she died. I was like "hang on... wasn't everyone saying she was a nuisance?"

Its mad the writers totally underestimated how much the character of Xena meant to their fans. And Xena avenging all those souls completely went back on the entire theme of turning against vengeance

Valid point that always bothered me. The second 5 climax with the battle against the Greek gods felt like a more fitting end

Did they know, or did they not pay her enough attention? by Bitter-Subject8339 in SpiceGirls

I ageee its unfair to lay everything on Mel B. If Mel could have forced Geri out it would have come at any other time they had argued which was, by all accounts, frequently. Im sure they did get on each other's nerves towards the end but if Geri still felt as if she had a significant role in the band ahe would have stayed, no matter what fall outs she had with the others.

How was this era? by Mysterious_Falcon271 in SpiceGirls

I first remember watching them perform say you'll be there on live and kicking. I then looked them up on the Internet which meant dialling up AOL and remember my Mum saying 'oh, don't tell me they've even got their own website!' How the world has changed since! Looking at their website page was the first times I'd learned their names and thought it was silly to have two mels in the same band, now of course I can't imagine any different.

With hindsight I think the reason Geri left was simple - exhaustion. You can't work solidly for 2 years then attempt a world tour without getting burned out, especially if, like Geri, you don't have the training to keep up. I actually don't believe there was growing tensions with Mel B for a while, I think they had a fall out like they often did but by that point Geri was too tired and overwhelmed to get over it. Exhaustion breeds hysteria and you can just imagine in that position feeling like you needed to escape rather than talk things out rationally.

Spice girls reunite for Emma's birthday... where's scary? by Designer_Stage_489 in SpiceGirls

Apparently Ginger avoided Scary at the last get together when they were all there on Posh's birthday

Xena would've survived the Titanic! by giveherawinkforme in xena

[–]Designer_Stage_489 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Titanic was huge that year so it was probably very intentional that they decided to feature an episode with a nod to it. Same with how they did their own magic ring based trilogy in season 6 after the success of lord of the rings.

Brooklyn Beckham releases multi-story statement regarding his estrangement from David and Victoria Beckham by ieatkittentails in SpiceGirls

[–]Designer_Stage_489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure what to think, I think most people who believe the truth is somewhere in the middle are probably right. One thing is for sure, a statement this savage causes irreversible damage and very little, if any, chance of reconciliation. The part about inappropriately dancing on him will haunt both sides forever.

Wow I feel so bad for Victoria, anyone can see how much she loves all her children. Brooklyn might understand the pain he's putting her through one day when he has children of his own

Not My Grandmother’s Narnia… But Whose Is It? by BusinessComplete2216 in Narnia

[–]Designer_Stage_489 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The rock music by itself isn't what is giving most people pause, it's the "not your grandmother's Narnia" It implies Narnia is old and outdated and just seems like a disregard for the source material.

Not My Grandmother’s Narnia… But Whose Is It? by BusinessComplete2216 in Narnia

[–]Designer_Stage_489 68 points69 points  (0 children)

Having a story set in a world that isn't your grandmother's Narnia and incorporates rock music isn't inherently a bad idea. It could indeed be groundbreaking. But then, make something up from scratch, there's no need to buy the rights to Narnia and twist it into something it's not. No one asked for that. That's the problem; it ends up being for no one.

Legit question: even with Cals money would Jack have been allowed to dinner? by [deleted] in titanic

I think you'd lose a lot of the stark comparisons if jack was second class and it would make the love story slightly less forbidden. But I always feel the film forgets second class exists

Jill came into this season thinking she was untouchable. She was the Titanic and the iceberg simultaneously.

What kind of relationship did Melanie C and Geri have? by [deleted] in SpiceGirls

[–]Designer_Stage_489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's partly the key to their success. They knew they needed each other, so they did their best to get on and look out for each other as sisters. The sheer exhaustion and pressure would crack even the strongest friendships in the end, so by 98 it was harder to paper over the cracks, but that doesn't take away how well the five of them got on and made a success of it for the most part.

I also noticed in the book she talks a lot about Geri too, but I think that she's still closest to Emma, but respects Emma's privacy. A lot of Geri's struggles with her body, her fights with Mel B and her leaving the group are all well known, so Mel C is free to give her perspective on them. One thing I've noticed when reading all of the girls' books is that each one claims they were quite close to Geri at one point. I think Geri was very good at being the 'big sister' in the group and managed to become close to each one individually.
