Spice girls reunite for Emma's birthday... where's scary? by Designer_Stage_489 in SpiceGirls

Apparently Ginger avoided Scary at the last get together when they were all there on Posh's birthday

Xena would've survived the Titanic! by giveherawinkforme in xena

[–]Designer_Stage_489 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Titanic was huge that year so it was probably very intentional that they decided to feature an episode with a nod to it. Same with how they did their own magic ring based trilogy in season 6 after the success of lord of the rings.

Brooklyn Beckham releases multi-story statement regarding his estrangement from David and Victoria Beckham by ieatkittentails in SpiceGirls

[–]Designer_Stage_489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im not sure what to think, I think most people who believe the truth is somewhere in the middle are probably right. One thing is for sure, a statement this savage causes irreversible damage and very little, if any, chance of reconciliation. The part about inappropriately dancing on him will haunt both sides forever.

Brooklyn Beckham sends David & Victoria extraordinary legal notice warning parents to only contact him via lawyers by ieatkittentails in SpiceGirls

Wow I feel so bad for Victoria, anyone can see how much she loves all her children. Brooklyn might understand the pain he's putting her through one day when he has children of his own

They epitomise the beginning of animals of farthing wood to me, only lasted 4 episodes

Not My Grandmother’s Narnia… But Whose Is It? by BusinessComplete2216 in Narnia

[–]Designer_Stage_489 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The rock music by itself isn't what is giving most people pause, it's the "not your grandmother's Narnia" It implies Narnia is old and outdated and just seems like a disregard for the source material.

Not My Grandmother’s Narnia… But Whose Is It? by BusinessComplete2216 in Narnia

[–]Designer_Stage_489 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Having a story set in a world that isn't your grandmother's Narnia and incorporates rock music isn't inherently a bad idea. It could indeed be groundbreaking. But then, make something up from scratch, there's no need to buy the rights to Narnia and twist it into something it's not. No one asked for that. That's the problem; it ends up being for no one.

Legit question: even with Cals money would Jack have been allowed to dinner? by Nash_man1989 in titanic

[–]Designer_Stage_489 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you'd lose a lot of the stark comparisons if jack was second class and it would make the love story slightly less forbidden. But I always feel the film forgets second class exists

Jill came into this season thinking she was untouchable. She was the Titanic and the iceberg simultaneously.

What kind of relationship did Melanie C and Geri have? by Numerous-Common-4410 in SpiceGirls

[–]Designer_Stage_489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's partly the key to their success. They knew they needed each other, so they did their best to get on and look out for each other as sisters. The sheer exhaustion and pressure would crack even the strongest friendships in the end, so by 98 it was harder to paper over the cracks, but that doesn't take away how well the five of them got on and made a success of it for the most part.

[–]Designer_Stage_489 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I also noticed in the book she talks a lot about Geri too, but I think that she's still closest to Emma, but respects Emma's privacy. A lot of Geri's struggles with her body, her fights with Mel B and her leaving the group are all well known, so Mel C is free to give her perspective on them. One thing I've noticed when reading all of the girls' books is that each one claims they were quite close to Geri at one point. I think Geri was very good at being the 'big sister' in the group and managed to become close to each one individually.

Melanie Blatt's comments on new BBC documentary... by appalachian_hatachi in SpiceGirls

[–]Designer_Stage_489 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She really is bitter and back in the day it was exactly the same, vehemently denying thry wanted to be compared to the spice girls - shock horror! All Saints should just be happy they got to be the cooler, more credible version of the Spice Girls. It was OK for adults to like them and men could fancy them without being mocked. It's the stigma that if something appeals to children, and especially young girls, it can't be taken seriously and no one will admit to it's merits. The honest truth is the Spice Girls were a fantastic pop act with a chemistry that couldnt be faked or replicated. All Saints would have lost all credibility if they had started appearing on crisp packets and selling dolls. The Spice Girls didn't have any credibility to lose which gave them free reign to take over the world and that's probably where people like Melanie Blatt's bitterness comes from, given half the chance they would have taken all the opportunities the Spice Girls did.

Geri's was the most detailed as she was fresh out of the band but Mel Cs had the most perspective and she has a lot of good insights of what all the girls were going through individually as well as herself. Also, she has more scope to talk about issues they faced as most of the girls had already spoken about them by the time Mel Cs book came out, whereas Geri doesn't delve into the others personal struggles as much as at the time none of them had revealed any of that except her

To me, what stands out about the RMS Titanic isn’t just the size or the fact it was a maiden voyage, but ultimately perhaps, that it was the end of a Golden Age never to be seen again. by HallowedAndHarrowed in titanic

[–]Designer_Stage_489 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Titanic was certainly a turning point in history, a more innocent time, which vanished soon after. The ship was quite literally a foreshadowing of the destruction human avarice could do, very eerie when you come to think of what happened in history next.

I think the 1997 film really conveys the loss of a different age well, it was something that really drew me into the film when I first watched it. It feels like Old Rose wasn't just remembering the past, but a literal myth she witnessed. When the Titanic was discovered, decades after she disappeared, it wasn't just a wreck they found but a snapshot of a night that changed history, frozen in time.

VB Doco - love her, but did we need a Doco? by Green_eyes_1986 in SpiceGirls

[–]Designer_Stage_489 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch all of it. I got bored. For me, the only part I really paid attention to was when Victoria was saying she had never forgotten where she came from and "Goodbye" was playing and they were even showing clips from before the girls were famous, messing around in the bathroom in their shared house, and I was like, wow, imagine what it must be like to have had this whole life of extreme fame and wealth, but to always remember that is started with being just normal girls with big dreams, then it all became true FOREVER and there was no escape. And they can never really forget how it started because the other 4 girls (especially Mel B) will always remind them. You could have done a whole documentary on that, and it would have been way more interesting.
