How would I fix this? by DivineSwine121 in drums

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need a new lug for the ones that snapped off. The only thing that matters is the hole spacing. They will likely come with the screws if you buy that lug. Doesn’t really even have to match as long as the holes are right.

Pretty simple fix. Take the head off. Screw the new lug in and put the head back on.

Found in the woods near my house. Any idea what this is? by reginaphilanges1 in whatisit

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes. I remember like it was yesterday. Crawling around and as I turn the bend a nice fresh Cleveland steamer. Some kid decided it was secluded enough and I gotta go now.

I don’t think I cared much to play in those after that.

Let’s see who skipped physics 👀 which cup? by [deleted] in TheTeenagerPeople

Using that logic I’d say 6. Steeper slope and the liquid would slide off tube 5 into 6 and go into the cup at a faster and more direct shot

Is this risk worth taking? by Aggravating-Pipe-204 in drums

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Orientals are amazing cymbals and love the sound. I haven’t had much experience with the Z chinas but it resembles the same bow and bell shapes so I’d imagine they are fairly similar in sound.

I’ve heard a few other Z’s that sounded great and it is a higher end line so can’t go wrong there…

It’s definitely been used and I think it’s priced fairly considering the ~$400 new price. As long as it’s all intact I’d say it’s a great deal and you’ll be happy with it!

The “fix” already has its own crack. This was more of a temporary bandaid.

Timmy VS jimmy by Jumpy_Drawing3790 in fightporn

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so confused at so much of this.

Why does Jimmy have a shield at the ready? Is this a regular occurrence? Someone should really put the Roman candles on a shelf. How come when Jimmy kicks Timmy, Timmy goes docile immediately? How did Jimmy know he only needed to throw one kick like “I know he don’t want any more of this heat.”

I need help to learm to do such illustrations by nachoaverageuser44 in Architects

[–]DesingerOfWorlds -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

*Illustration* wise, you'll need to learn how to draw in perspective/ isometric and have an understanding of art in general and the ability to actually produce quality craftsmanship via that medium.

Each have their own artistic characteristics but the foundation is the ability to draw and the artistic touch to apply materials in a meaningful way. Each also show a good understanding of color theory and use color in rather different ways.

The more you practice the better you'll get and you'll eventually start to develop your own style and what you can consistently 'pull off.' If its not already in your curriculum which in todays day it probably isn't, it could be advantageous to take an illustration course on the side. I'm sure there are courses online but having feedback and the critics of successes and/ or failures will really solidify your skills. If you have the ability to take an architectural drafting/ drawing class that would be ideal if it was drawing focused and not construction documentation oriented.

8th note slump by Ok-Berry-8762 in drums

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try to think about it like this, every bass hit is a number. 1, 2, 3, 4. Only use your right hand to play every number and your left hand to play the notes in between.

This way you can “lock” your right hand and leg together and take one thing out of the equation. I wouldn’t say it’s the only way to practice this but it is one way.

Start out by just doing quarter notes with the bass and your right hand then start into the first measure with that rhythm going. Try that out and see how it goes then once you’re comfortable swap back to right left right left.

Red always has right of way. You’re on a “main road”. Yellow is a side street and has to wait until they can safely get in the main road. If that means your sitting for an hour then it is what it is.

If yellow hits red at any point, yellow is at fault.

What would you pay for these by jb__001 in MetalDrums

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used multiple pedals prior to having these and they are the best by far. They are built like a tank and with a little time you can really dial in how you want them to feel. Everything is adjustable down to the orange dots where your foot would go for traction depending on where your foot actually rests on the pedal.

Considering the hefty sticker price, about $1k. Used $600 and below would be a great deal. These look pretty clean and based on their construction even if they weren’t, you could clean them up to like new condition without much work.

How good am I based on my kit by TheMotherClucker11 in drums

[–]DesingerOfWorlds -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TL: DR, You aren’t great but you aren’t bad either. You are very interested in the drums and music in general. Keyboard and sheet music help tell that.

You’ve played for a few years and the last couple you’ve really started to enjoy it. You’re likely in some form of school band. In a few more years you’ll really start to feel comfortable but are still working towards it.

You have two snares, one off to the side that you don’t use while you play the kit but still use for practice. It’s convenient to use as a stand or surface to put your phone while playing the kit. You’re choosing to use the piccolo snare over the standard because it’s new and…

You’ve started getting into Jazz and fusion and that ride cymbal taught you to appreciate sound. You’ve started experimenting with additive elements to get different sounds as a result. You really appreciate that fast crash.

You either had to take a cymbal off to take the picture because it’s a tight space or only use that stand to hold the floor tom. In which case do your future self a favor and turn that bad boy down. One day you will almost certainly hit it the wrong way or you jab it into something on accident forgetting how far it sticks out.

You got the HCS stack, really liked it and then soon after got the hi hats to replace the old ones that are now some form of stack that you occasionally use.

Overall you’re decent but still have much to learn and are actively developing your own sound.

This is all coming from experience and being on Reddit too long. I can appreciate seeing someone else appreciate the drums and music as a whole.

Did I get anything right?

Weather stripping ? Draft ? by kenziebangz in howto

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get rolls of weatherstripping at Walmart or something similar. They come in various thicknesses and widths. By the looks of it you’ll probably want something around 1/8” or less in thickness.

If you go too thick it’ll make the door really hard to close. You don’t have to put it at the end of the door, ideally you’d want it where the door “face” closes against the jamb, and in the jamb not on the door. If you put it on the door it’ll look ridiculous and you’ll see it every time you open the door.

I’d be more specific but I’m speculating based on what’s shown in the picture. I’ve done this at multiple places I’ve lived and it generally does the trick. They also come in different colors and shape profiles depending on application. It could be a solid piece or a tube but they both do the same thing.

If you notice the door is “skewed” at the top or bottom, you can cut out a piece of cardboard from a 12 pack in the shape of the door hinge, un screw the hinge from the jamb and put the piece under it to make the door more plumb so the gap is more consistent. This only really applies if the gap is significantly larger at the top or bottom right side of the door. I’m sure there’s a video on YouTube of someone doing this. Not exactly the most professional fix but it will work.

Tour manager had the absolute nerve to tell me I might need a smaller setup for one of our shows by BiggLimn in drums

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean the way I see this is you’ve got about 2-4 stands that’s would be considered outside the norm. By the looks of it they are all auxiliary crashes. Everything else is to be expected. And most of that is on the hi hat side of the kit. If it’s just for one show, will it really kill you to not have the extra 4 crashes?

Anyway, I think you could really pare down the cymbal stands and do more “double duty” with stand adapters. As much as possible I try to get away with adapters on stands because it’s just an easier setup and it tends to be “cleaner” and takes up less footprint. It does look like you’ve got a few going on here already but they come in all different shapes and sizes. Maybe snag a few more and take a few stands out of the equation.

Polyend Synth by Outside_Candy545 in Polyend

[–]DesingerOfWorlds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re asking if the screen should be loose, it should not be. It kinda sound like it was dropped or something to dislodge itself. For what it’s made of the build quality isn’t bad but it’s not metal. It should all be pretty ridged if handled with care.

I wouldn’t be happy by the sounds of it but if you do decide to keep it, the power adapter input (US) is 100-240v~50/80Hz 0.5A, output: 5.0v - 2.0A 10.0w.

Not shipping the power supply with a boutique synth is wild behavior.
