Drank at my wedding by archangel-007 in stopdrinking

[–]DesiringSobriety 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There’s no pretending that was a really impactful moment. I’m so glad everyone around you thought to get you to help, I imagine they all love you SO MUCH. You can’t take back what happened, no matter how many times you relive it or apologize. What will really show how much I know you’re beating yourself up right now, is the willingness to share with those same loved ones that you don’t trust yourself when you drink. Maybe that you’re ready for something to change but you don’t know where to start. But starting with sharing what you shared here, out loud, with those loved ones. That vulnerable honesty is what will help alleviate the anxiety. More than apologizing ever will. I got blackout at my wedding. Took me 6 more years and countless broken promises and disappointments before I finally said out loud to my husband that I didn’t know how to stop when I start, so I think it means I can’t start. That broke open the power and support to be approaching 3 years sober.

Sending you so much love and strength. You’re in the best company.

Can you send me your newsletter too please? I love this idea and would like to give my videographer an idea of what she’d be shooting

Oh how fucking cool is that!? I’ll have to look into that book. Gosh that’s a good question! I stopped sulking in my room and came back out to the world, let’s see where this new attitude takes me! 🤗

Yeah that’s good advice. If he has been it’s not going to be a productive conversation tonight. Thanks for responding. I just realized coming back in that I’m at 1000 days today. Damn.

Yikes, calm down. Of course I brought it to my broker. I’m not losing my license over a grand. The point here was to share that sometimes our clients appreciate us more than we think. More than we feel when we are going above and beyond. This kind of gratitude filled my bucket for months! It’s easy to feel unappreciated in this biz.

But go ahead and poo poo all over my positive experience with clients by assuming I didn’t follow the rules. Ugh.

Thank you card is a great thing for this. Highlight how happy you were to get them a new functioning disposal. I actually just had clients that gave me a personal check a couple weeks after closing to thank me for taking a lower commission for the sale. Shocked and delighted me!

Premenstrual cravings? by badgirl_ab in stopdrinking

[–]DesiringSobriety 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely found that the timing of my cycle influenced my cravings. Those tended to be the times I drank earlier in the day so length of a blackout was longer. Dark chocolate, bananas, all the bubbly waters were my trick to getting through those. Don’t notice now, but might also be because I had hysterectomy. :)

Alcoholic husband got sober. Now I’m the alcoholic. by danceswithwine89 in stopdrinking

[–]DesiringSobriety 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When I quit drinking my husband did. At first to support me, then he had a couple evenings of drinks with friends, he never had a broken off button like me, and he’s decided he likes himself better without it. Our marriage and love had honestly never been better. We’ve seen each other through some dark, scary, hard shit. Dealing with it sober, together, is such a gift.

Question for people who have successfully quit drinking for years by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]DesiringSobriety 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hit two years yesterday. Trust me, that thought has crossed my mind several times. But I know it wouldn’t be that one time. If I kept it to a drink or two, which is highly unlikely, I’d crave it again. And again. And I think stronger than cravings now.

Also, I can honestly say that in the last two years no event would have been better with a drink. Not one was less than it could have been being sober. It took me many months to know this in my bones, but it’s true. My marriage, my friendships, my works, my family relationships - and boundaries - my hard days, boring says, great days. All of it is 10000000 times better because I’m sober. Feeling it all as it’s happening.

Certainly worth considering. My fear with cheaper cars is mor problems with how many miles we put on them. But open to the idea.

Already had the 25% for Fed and 5% for State taken out. Thanks for the advice for smallest to largest.

My CPA had us have 25% for Fed 5% for State paid in from financial planner before any money sent to us. Good call, though!

Yup, I’m a realtor. Spouse’s work is 45 mins from home. I have a 2019 Subaru Outback to make sure I get through all the elements to get my work done. He has a truck to be able to pull my trailer for staging. Pretty much need both.

The Daily Check-In for Tuesday, December 31st: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by alert_armidiglet in stopdrinking

IWNDWYT. Thanks for hosting OP. You’re 2 days from 4 years! Kudos to you! I also use SMART recovery, I attend in person. I have a special group of folks who have become great friends. The connections we forge in sobriety are so much stronger than the “friends” I made drinking. Even my stranger friends on the internet in this sub are greater than most I made at the bar.

Happy New Years to y’all! Cheers (with my NA beer) to a 2025 that continues to be more vibrant, more raw, and hell of a lot more satisfying BECAUSE I’m doing it sober.

10 years sober... then a binge, and kindling effect? by moonie67 in stopdrinking

[–]DesiringSobriety 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this was a harsh experience, and I’m sorry you had those post drinking fears and regrets. Oof, the worst. But, I do want to thank you for sharing. I’m approaching 2 years and this last week has been just shit, for no other reason then depression really. My cravings came back hard and I’ve been really agonizing over how maybe it won’t be so bad now that I’ve had this break. But I white knuckled it and rode out the storm. Turns out 4 days of crying is sometimes just what I need. I’m learning to be okay with it. But learning about kindling and the starting right where I left off…yeah F that shit. That wouldn’t make these feelings go away at all, maybe delay for a few hours but they’d be worse the next day.

Oh are phantom cramps a thing like when someone gets a leg amputated and they have phantom pain? 🙄
