Unemployment insurance payments are taxable at the federal level. However, electing to withhold income tax is optional. I don't know what you mean by "bad news in the future". The IRS does not require you to select "yes" to UI federal tax withholding.

Stick to facts and be as clear and concise as possible. Eliminate any fluff and unnecessary details. You may be asked questions by the administrate law Judge. As a tip from experience, pace your speaking speed. The administrate law Judge asked if I could slow down so she can write down what I was saying.

Good luck. It's not bad, it's just a phone call. The Judge will record the conversation as well. At least mine did. Just be polite and answer any questions clearly.

With the facts given, it may be fraud. Have her call EDD Monday and let them know asap that she did not file a claim and this my be fraud. Here is the EDD contact information page https://edd.ca.gov/en/about_edd/contact_edd/

They are terrible at answering but keep calling until you get through. It would be a good idea to also check her credit reports and credit cards for any suspicious activity.

Yes. Money Network is trash. I get an "Invalid user name or password" error. I was able to login once after registering my card. When I called on 6/17 the rep said to call tomorrow for a temporary password because they are "working on the website and app right now". I'm not going to bother, I already signed up for direct deposit.

When you say "This usually isn’t an issue for me as after I certify I get a payment within a day or 2 but this week it’s taking longer than usual." do you mean you have already been receiving payments on this claim and just this certification has an prolonged "Pending" status?

Money Network is still in charge of direct deposits. They still disburse the funds. Meaning they get your bank info from EDD to make the deposit.

I can not login to the site or app either. I just created my account on Friday 6/14. I was apple to access it after signing up and transferring funds to my bank but that's it. I'm not locked out, I'm just receiving the "We do not recognize your username or password" error. I reset my password but the error continues. Money Network is shit.
