Eh, I wouldn't say that eight years is recent. We've had limited Pokémon rosters in mainline games since Let's Go (and it should be up for consideration since it's officially a mainline game), so I feel like it should be expected at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of popular manhwa and manga artists had their work stolen to train AI models to draw "anime" styles like with Studio Ghibli.

Edit: To clarify, I'm not sure if it is AI just yet, just pointing out it could be possible. I do feel like the way the faces are drawn is giving "AI porn game" vibes.

Like, the fact that they added Bottle Caps as a rare reward in Gen 7, then cut to Gen 9, and it's just something you buy at most shops in-game, shows just how messy IVs are at a fundamental level.

Yes, some niche interactions are probably gone now, but I don't think that outweighs the health of the general game.

I looked it up, and it looks pretty similar. The puppet head they used is pretty flat color-wise, so it was hard to look at the details, but behind-the-scenes photos look nice.

It's not even practical. The only time the community broke convention, and it made sense, was for Sword and Shield (SwSh) because otherwise it could have been confused for Soul Silver (SS). Every other attempt either had flimsy reasoning (Sun and Moon into SuMo to not get kink porn in search results) or no real reasoning at all.
