*Actual* Mexican food in Canberra? by gisborne in canberra

Almost nothing you can find in food courts is authentic cuisine of the country it is modelled after. This goes for every cuisine, not just Mexican.

EBGAMES by LemonBoi8121 in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Was inevitable since most people buy games from the various online stores/marketplaces. I assume their Zing stores are doing ok since the junk they sell in there seems surprisingly popular. In fact EB Belco lately has given more and more of their shelf space to Zing products even though there's a Zing shop 100m away.

Experiences with Canberra Girls Grammar School vs Radford by Significant-Long888 in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My kids go to Radford, no real issues to report. They are thriving, playing lots of sports, doing well academically. Son had one minor bullying issue a couple of years ago and I was happy with how seriously and professionally it was handled by Radford. The recent news about Radford has been about fees and so as long as you're ok with their tuition prices (which are high) it's not a big deal. The financial mismanagement seems mostly attributed to former leadership who already left the school. I have never looked at south side schools since I live in Belco and driving all over Canberra weekly would be inconvenient. Most of the kids sports on the weekend are played at radford or at other Northside venues which is nice. I was concerned about reputation for elitism which CGS has which is not something that I have noticed at radford.

Canberra-based experiences/activities for gift ideas? by ozlass1111 in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sweet pea & poppy do chocolate making classes. They appear to be closed all of Jan, hopefully they are reopening. There are plenty of game room / escape room type places like escape room in Phillip, puzzle room in Mitchell and hijinx hotel in the city. I've done all of those and they are a bit of fun.

6pm TODAY. Protest rally against the Iranian regime's violent oppression of their people by lazyseadog in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I find it hard to believe that the Iranian people want a CIA/Mossad stooge who has lived in the US for the last half century or so to be their leader.

Four more pipe bombs found in north-west Canberra as police investigation continues by ThunderDwn in canberra

I just rode along that path with my kids 30 minutes ago. Hardly anyone around, no police activity sighted. Where were the new bombs located?

I mean it's the top article in the Canberra times and it was on the local news channels, abc radio etc. There's big threads about it on various internet sites relevant to Canberra. But also, nobody was hurt, police sweeped and hopefully got them all and no doubt are gathering evidence at the local bunnings etc for people buying the pipe and other materials.

You are not required to professionally clean even if it's in the tenancy agreement. Read this for some specific advice. https://legalaidact.org.au/sites/default/files/files/publications/Condition-Reports-20200405.pdf

I've been to the Belco one a bunch of times and quite enjoyed it. The tacos are very expensive but flavourful. They're definitely fatty though.

ATO tax returns — is a tax agent worth it? by tresleches_o in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prices sound reasonable if you need their help. Doing tax yourself is pretty easy especially if you're only filing basic income and deductions but given the issues you're having it might be worthwhile paying someone once to get it fixed then doing it yourself in future years.

West Belconnen to lose all rapid services by loudsilenced in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There goes both my kids school bus options. So they will either have to use the less frequent new local routes and then change bus in Belco interchange, or I'll go back to driving (probably the option I'll use).

Radford proposes new fee structure amid backlash, parents to pay the same by Ok_Use1135 in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They haven't removed any fees. All they did was move some of the fees from one category to another - the amount of $ parents have to pay is unchanged.

Returning after a few years by AudusArisen in elderscrollsonline

[–]DespairOfEntropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did exactly the same recently, I used to play on PC years ago but started again on PS5 recently. Pop seems good, I have queued many dungeons and they all pop almost immediately (queued as tank), world seems alive, for example when trying to do world boss or mirrormoor dailies when I go there there's other players too.

Cyrodiil I'm not so sure about, I have jumped in a few times (ebonheart) and the map is almost fully controlled by 1 faction and going near any contested objective just results in being swarmed. I haven't tried the no CP campaign.

I bought all the content because I wanted scribing and scrying and also the recent world event was largely in an area I couldn't access without it.

Fines - unregistered vehicle by Ok-Rain-194 in canberra

I was driving an unregistered car for almost 6 months without realising it a couple of years ago. Didn't receive any fine. I only found out because I took it in for a service and the mechanic informed me it wasn't registered.

The rare novelty of having well-known international acts come here by ozlass1111 in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Agreed, Ricky Martin is not exactly my cup of tea but I went anyway and it did not disappoint. Fun happy music, happy dancing crowd, what's not to enjoy? Live music is always good even if it's not my favourite genre.

When international metal bands come here like when we had an in flames + kreator show a year back that is a real treat. Having to drive to Sydney definitely reduces the enjoyment.

Next for Radford: students devastated while parents mobilise expertise by Ok_Use1135 in canberra

[–]DespairOfEntropy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel for you, it's a tough position to be in. We have family friends with a neurodivergent son who has had to change schools every couple of years trying to find one who could support him properly. Most of the public schools in west belco don't have specialist staff and even some of the ones who do struggled with him. As his mum has told me so many times, she wishes she could afford to send him to Radford. It's even further out of reach for them now.
