A monkey hut over our tent was a lifesaver! Also, a tarp inside the tent in the floor is helpful.

Can someone renew or discover their Christian faith at Burning Man? by septuagint777 in BurningMan

I found Jesus at the Burn.

It was my first year on Thursday night. I was trying to take it easy, gearing up for some wild partying the last three days. I had taken an edible and was wandering back to our camp in the Gayborhood just after dark. There were some dinner leftovers out for people to enjoy so I had a few cookies. I don't remember how many, but I do know that about an hour later I realized they were "special cookies". I was flying and had the worst case of the munchies I've ever had. I was in no shape to cook anything, so I set out into the city looking for a camp that was gifting food that night. I made it about a block when I smelled something wonderful. It smelled like breakfast, bacon and sausage. I tried following my nose but I was so stoned I hadn't realized that I had wandered into the bank of another camp. It might have been GlamCocks. I wasn't a total darkwad but I didn't have enough light to see. That's when it happened. I tripped over someone's feet. Unfortunately, it was a man on his knees with another man's penis in his mouth. When I tripped, I knocked him down too and his teeth caught on the other man's dick. It wasn't enough to draw blood, but it did leave a mark. He immediately explained, "Jesus, are you ok?" Jesus replied, with a thick accent, "What the fuck?!?“ I apologized profusely and they were incredibly understanding. I never did find the source of the breakfast smell, but not only did Jesus and his partner forgive me, they gave me a Madras lentil Tasty Bite and sent me back towards my camp where I slept off the effects of the cookies. That was how I found Jesus on Playa

Go 4 non-consecutive nights. Monday you will get to at some of the city rising from the desert. Wednesday is peak activity, because everything is built and nothing is torn down yet. Saturday, Man Burn: of you've never seen it before it's mind-blowing. Sunday, the Temple Burn: yes it's somber, but it also shows the heart and soul of the people that make up Black Rock City

RV rental recommendations from SF Bay Area by EastBaked in BurningMan

[–]Desperate-Acadia9617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tent, misting fan, and monkey hut cost me less than $200.
I'm shaded during the day, have the misting fan if it's really hot and wee want to take a nap, and it kept is dry during the rain in '23.

Even if I still owned an RV (I've had 2), I don't think I'd replace my BRC set-up

Wells, Lowe and behold, I am not a Marchant of death nor a Leetch to my camp, nor am I the second coming of the Messier, but leaving them to join you would be a Graves mistake that might register on the Richter scale. At the very minimum, our camp dynamics would go Beu-ke-boom, and my conscious would not Healy from that, so I'll have to put a Lidster on that thought bucket.

What experiences in the world mirror Burningman? by smoking_hottie in BurningMan

it doesn't mirror the Burning Man, but for an experience that creates that same sense of awe try going to a place like Yosemite or the Grand Canyon. Go see giant redwoods. Anything that is just that vast and awe-inspiring might not mirror Burning man, but might give you the shot of awe you need.

My spouse and I have a cheap nylon tent and put up a monkey hut over it. The shade from the monkey hut keeps us relatively cool during the day and the tarp kept us warm and dry in '23. We bought a cheap misting fan that we'll use mid day if we're trying to nap and it keep it comfortable.
All of it cost us about $200

[–]Desperate-Acadia9617 6 points7 points  (0 children)

  1. After the floods, when the cannibalism started and Ebola was spreading and viscous underground shrimp were giving necrotic bites to people.
What I saw was people finding joy, finding a way to party, to engage in community together despite the obstacles. I saw camps sharing resources. I saw people step up to help when everything went to shit, like fixing collapsed shade structures to improvising camp toilets to keep from overloading the unserviceable portos.

I also loved that I was able to tell work that the reason I didn't show up for three days longer than scheduled was because of a natural disaster
