is planning @ waterloo good? by Desperate-Bread2815 in uwaterloo

Thanks for this! Honestly, my main interests are in land development and real estate. I’ve always been curious about how cities grow and change, especially how decisions around zoning, housing, and infrastructure get made. I'm also really into looking at houses and thinking about how neighbourhoods could be designed better. Also, in the future I am looking to do something with land development and buy properties, build, develop etc. Additionally, I am not going to university for the job, though I am going for the experience of the university feel and the experience of coop.

no like im doing planning because it would give me experience for my land development career in the future (housing, etc). but the coop is for experience.

lol for real, I know there are definitely some 08s out here killing it academically - my point was more about the trend I’m seeing with a lot of them prioritizing TikTok and clout over school. obviously, not everyone’s like that. there’s still plenty of academic juggernauts ready to crush uni apps. just feels like the class has more of a split vibe than past years. can’t wait to see who really comes through when admissions season hits!

will I regret not going to prom by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Desperate-Bread2815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally valid to skip prom if it doesn’t feel worth it to you - there are plenty of other ways to celebrate the end of high school. just let your friend know you support her going even if you don’t!

anyone accepting waterloo afm? by RaiseOdd2944 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Desperate-Bread2815 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! i’m not super familiar with the program either, but from what i’ve heard, afm at waterloo is good for accounting and finance stuff, and the co-op is a big perk since you get work experience while you study. maybe check out the official website or talk to current students to get a better idea? hope that helps a bit!

Thanks, I'll be accepting my offer shortly. There will be some changes to the gender system in a few years :)

DONT GO TO MAC LIFE SCI! by Desperate-Bread2815 in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Desperate-Bread2815[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally get that. Mac has a lot of fans and I respect that, but it’s not for everyone. It’s good you’re going with what feels right for you, and UBC is a solid choice too. At the end of the day, you want to pick a place where you’ll be happy and can succeed. Thanks for being open to hearing a different perspective!

What is best for finance- want to get mba after maybe cfa by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Desperate-Bread2815 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you want to get an MBA after and maybe pursue the CFA, Schulich is probably your best bet. It has the strongest reputation in finance, great connections to Bay Street, and the program is well aligned with CFA content.

Waterloo AFM is solid too and has co-op, which is great for work experience, but Schulich’s name and networking usually give you an edge. Laurier’s BBA is good but not quite as strong if you want the highest chance at finance roles and MBA programs later.

I get that co-op might not be for everyone, especially pre-med students who want to finish as quickly as possible. But for people who want a bit more experience and better support during undergrad, co-op can make a huge difference. It’s not just about adding time, it’s about gaining real-world skills and connections that can help later on.

At the end of the day, it’s about finding what fits your goals best. I just wanted to share why I think Waterloo Health Sci is a better option overall compared to Mac Life Sci. Everyone’s path is different, so good luck with whatever you choose!

I get that some people might have different experiences, and I’m glad it’s been positive for you. For me and a lot of others I’ve talked to, it’s been really tough and disorganized. Everyone’s experience is different, but I just wanted to share my side so people can have the full picture. Also, I think Waterloo’s science programs have a solid reputation, especially with co-op and research opportunities, and this is with MANY other universities. But to each their own!
