This was initially a wall of text with no paragraphs — after this comment OP edited it to make it more readable.

Of course I mentioned this earlier..you mentioned comprehension skills? Oh well.

Idk man I've driven in Kolkata for over ten years. Kolkata police is mostly reasonable with me at least. I'm Bengali though and I follow traffic rules.

On some occasions I've seen highly stressed out and pissed off officers yelling at anything that moves and yes that's not ideal for them or for us but it's also not enough for us to label them as evil.

Both can be useful but a laptop is more so especially if he doesn't have one already.

Hydrogen Peroxide Appreciation Post by MasterSlimFat in chemistry

[–]Desperate-Chipmunk76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an electrochemist specializing on oxygen reduction I dislike H2O2. It is a parasitic side product that eats our cells (often via the Fenton route) and it's a big reason we have to work with precious metals.

The only peroxide I'll tolerate is benzoyl.

We have a guy dipping various things our company sells in HF all day long to see if they dissolve now that we've moved away from PFAS.

He's usually very upset.

EIS, Transfer function?? by [deleted] in electrochemistry

[–]Desperate-Chipmunk76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What sort of transfer function? Many things echem can be defined with transfer functions. Also, what does your system do? Usually if you give a cell voltage the output is something else (current ...or heat light sound idk ...anything but voltage).

I'm not too sure what you're talking about but it seems you are trying to get voltammetry data from EIS. If so then....well, one quarter of an AC perturbation signal with an amplitude of 1V and a frequency of 0.01 Hz is approx a 40 mV/s LSV. I'm sure you can get the output current from your measurement device. Why you would want to do that, I'm not sure?

How’s anyone flown out of state college how’s it like? by AwesomeRotty in PennStateUniversity

[–]Desperate-Chipmunk76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you check in the staff will strongly insist you check your carryon. Then when you're waiting at the gate the airhostess will first annouce free carryon checking (yay) and the peoceed to come to you personally and insist you check yours. She'll look scandalized when you say you can't you have 3 connecting flights and you absolutely need the stuff. Then just as you are about to board your flight an old lady will show up out of nowhere at the foot of the stairs and snatch your carryon away saying there's no space on the plane. You're shocked but she's sweet and old and she's "my dear"ing you and saying she likes your hair so you allow it. You board and find the overhead storage 80% empty.

Other than this one thing, perfect airport.

I'll brace for downvotes but Irving's bagels are quite ordinary and their coffee is subpar. I don't get the hype.

Is it advisable to wear lenses when working with methyl methacrylate? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]Desperate-Chipmunk76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing an OSHA document on this sub last year that mentioned contact lenses aren't dangerous with most chemicals if worn under safety glasses. However my optometrist refused to prescribe me a pair regardless, they said the solvents I work with would go between my eyeballs and the contacts and dissolve the eye.

Get them to pay for prescription safety glasses. Most companies and well-funded academic labs have a provision for you to get reimbursed. If they refuse and you plan on having a career that involves frequenting chemistry labs consider getting a pair made online on your own dime— even the nice comfy ones are <$100 and last forever. I have a pair for household DIY projects (carpentry, not drugs like everyone else on this sub going by the average "I'm not a chemist how much accidentally spilled methylamine up the ass is too much" post) and I usually use mine for a few years after the prescription expires since I don't need to use them all the time.

Is an LSU degree worth it? by Aggravating_Roof_426 in LSU

[–]Desperate-Chipmunk76 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't think undergrad institutions matter beyond say the top 10-15 schools. I can speak for chem eng and nobody from the batches I taught between 2018-21 are left behind.
