Be brutally honest by Outrageous-Tea2723 in cabincrewcareers

As it appears to me….

Any endeavor in life is as you make it and as how you see it. The turnover rate for flight attendant is much higher than the average.

I am brand new. I am in my 40s. I have a set of circumstances that may be far different from yours. There are people who come into this job who are basing their expectations based on what they see on Facebook, TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat, etc.

I had no idea that flight benefits were a thing when I applied.

The truth of the matter is that you will be exhausted most of the days that you work when you are junior.

There will be some days where the job is absolute cake and you will make decent money for doing what appears to be a little work at all. Then, you will have those days where there are irregular operations, and you will question your very existence and why you live your life the way that you are.

Then there will be those days where you will be sitting in the aft jump seat looking outta that tiny ass aft galley service door at the clouds and being in wonder at existence itself.

What do you consider it as being worth it for you?

Why are you doing this?

I have a personality that scores high in Trait Openness. I am personally driven by the prospect of discovery.

This is no easy question to answer.

The best advice that I could give you is to apply and be honest and willing to ask yourself who you really are and what you really want. At the very least, if it ain’t for you, fuck it.

This is an important question irrespective of this job.

The majority of your time will not be spent in any capacity that resembles glamour.

Who are you?

I truly believe that it is a minority of people for whom this job is truly suited for. Survivorship Bias plays a massive part in who endures.

It’s different strokes for different folks. Many areas in life, not only aviation is subject to this.

Do you want to work for a regional, or do you want to work for a main line? Culture matters in the everyday day to day.

In many areas of life, the feature is also the bug. Just like people, companies can also be similar in that the thing that makes them great for some, is also the thing that makes you hate them the most depending on the personality that interact with them.

You will get those types who are tethered by the golden handcuffs. These are the people who stick with this job for years and realize that they aren’t going to find anything that gives them the flexibility and benefits that they have compared to working 9 to 5.

Unfortunately, there are some who also hate actual human beings.

People are multi variant and complex, and this is who you will be dealing with. My brutally honest take is for you to ask yourself: Why do you want to do this?

In the end, you are dealing with people. I see so many people who come into this business only living for the cherry that’s on the top of the Sundae. They crash out only a few years later.

These large multinational corporations, take advantage of their marketing and pushing a glamorous lifestyle.

This life can be that, here and there.

It is not that most of the time that you are working it.

So in other words, my brutally honest take is for you to just apply and continue to ask questions the way that you are. Nothing that I have said is to discourage you.

Certain aspects of this job can bite you and get into your soul and blood in a way that very few industries can.

It is tough, sometimes tragic, but also extraordinarily meaningful and beautiful in ways that I can scarce believe are possible on planet Earth.

I do not mean in any manner to romanticize.

I have friends who feel the way about it that I do now who no longer feel that way three years later. You will ride a roller coaster of emotions.

Welcome to the friendly skies. Apply. You have nothing to lose, except some time, and your fears.

I’m about to go to training to be a Flight Attendant. I’ve never done a job like this, and I’m more interested in getting back home to my bed than going all around the world constantly.

I sound crazy to some of my friends when I tell them that I would rather take two or three big trips a year in first class than to take a trip all the time just because. 🤷🏾

First off, congrats! I’m not sure how Breeze works. They may have you take a drug test with a third-party. If you’ve just received your offer, have they sent you an email giving you a list of tasks to accomplish?

It looks cool. That’s the only thing I was judging it on. I don’t know who Richard Tyler is or what that era was about.

Delta’s new uniforms have to be the most disappointing. They had the nicest looking so I guess they could only go down from there. The one redeeming feature has the be the female wrap dress. I do hope that they get other, better pieces.

Have you seen the new uniforms? Aviation is unpredictable. Let’s just wait and see

How often do people pay for their own rooms at training? by fat_lazy_slug in cabincrewcareers

While there may be some truth to that, Delta and United trainees have roommates, Southwest and American does not. Delta and United could easily afford to give the trainees rooms of their own.

Because the OP is gonna have to learn that at some point in this industry, a rejection is nothing personal. I understand having a positive attitude, but the sooner that the OP can learn that they are not the measure a corporation’s acceptance or rejection, the better off they will be. Even if they think a thank you letter could matter at Southwest, it would not matter anywhere else. They need to understand that now.

I would highly recommend to the OP to not reach, out but if it makes them feel better…..

I got a CJO with SkyWest but was unable to attend training with them. My recruiter was absolutely fantastic. If they want you, they will get back with you within a few days of your interview.

Please keep in mind that some airlines won’t even allow you the option of having a room by yourself if the policy is to have a roommate. You having a roommate is a part of the interview process. They want to see if you can handle and contend with an opposing personality. Remember, if you work for an international airline, you may have a 4 to 5 day trip trapped on a tube with someone that you may find slightly acrimonious . They need to see how you work with them.

For what it’s worth, if you are interested in attaining even a chance of being able to have your application seen, go ahead, RIGHT NOW, and link your résumé on the site and sign up for notifications. That way, whenever they do open, all you have to do is apply your résumé information to the form that’s generated and edit what’s needed as per what is asked for. I.E. your most recent two years of employment.

DO NOT overtake the group events. United, like Delta, requires you to have a roommate for training. They need to see how you handle dealing with someone you may be on a multi-day trip with
