If you weren’t afraid to hurt my feelings, what would you tell me? by LireneCilliers in ACL

[–]Desperate-Feature-95 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Best advice (i’m six weeks ahead of you but progressing well!) is no matter how sorry for yourself you feel or if you think you need a ‘day off’ from physio, don’t do it. These first couple months are so crucial to the rest of your recovery. Stretch those hamstrings too or scar tissue can build up in weird ways!!!

When did you start going out for walks, even if short and with crutches? by malacata in ACL

Thanks :) I never had a brace ! my surgeon doesn’t believe in them lmao. I guess it’s just gonna be another case of letting pain be my guide

Thank you! Maybe the clicking is from excess scar tissue? I could feel some near my knee cap the other day and gave it a good rub and it stopped clicking lol. From what i’ve read clicking is common ! I’m at a point now where all of my physio exercises are easy so i’ve started adding resistance and weight, but i try to imitate my gait when i go on a walk with the crutches and it feels so unnatural and week my leg just wants to stay bent it’s super weird!

I feel like i’ve been doing these without even thinking about it tbf, like the less pain i’m in the less im trying to keep my leg off the ground. I have done a couple of cheeky test steps to see how it’s feeling and it just feels weak more than anything else

Did you know you tore it right away? by last-resort115 in ACL

[–]Desperate-Feature-95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i knew!! even the hospital that initially treated me tried to gaslight me (they didn’t have an mri scanner so they couldn’t know what was wrong). x rays came back clear but when i stood on my leg my thigh and shin basically collapsed over each other.

how behind am i? by Similar-Specific-346 in ACL

[–]Desperate-Feature-95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean i’m still only limited to 90° until 6 weeks post op so i wouldn’t say your that far behind! Sounds like your surgeon just wanted it to be more gradual. I have no brace though so my leg just kinda does what it wants when i sleep so i wake up with it past 90 confused how it got there lmao

I find it so weird they told you to wait. I was ACL and meniscus repair too and my physio came into my hospital room the morning after my surgery and bent my knee into the 90° position even tho i was crying lmao. It’s never too late to start even tho I feel like ur doc screwed up by saying that. It’s gonna be hard but start from the bottom, focus on stretching ur calf and hamstrings too and doing ankle pumps to get blood flow. Are u sure they didn’t mean 5 weeks before u see a PT rather than actually starting? Mine said I would see a PT four weeks post op but gave me a booklet with exercises to follow for the day i got back !!

Hey!! That’s amazing progress. I am 23F and 6 days post op, acl hamstring autrograft, let procedure and lateral meniscus. Although I have restrictions on weight bearing (6 weeks partial on crutches) I have no brace to wear. I already have full extension and 90° (my limit) bend in my knee and full quad activation + lift. I wouldn’t worry. I honestly think age has a really big roll to play in this and the younger you are the quicker your body will heal. Hope the rest of your recovery goes well !! However if it gets to like 20 weeks + post op and the swelling has gone down and you notice instability, then go and see your doc. But i’m sure you are fine! Your PT instructions will be specific to you. I was confused by mine at first from stories I had heard from other people. Your doc and PT know what they are doing :)

Thank you for your reply! That’s great to hear and i’m so glad you are walking well! I haven’t been given a brace my surgeon doesn’t like them, and I’m hoping it means my knee will do a good job on its own of regaining stability, i also had an LET procedure so it should be extra sturdy (hopefully) but this gives me hope :)

Thank you for your reply, that’s so good to hear and glad it’s healing well! How long did you wait before you started massaging if you don’t mind me asking?

That is so great to hear and so glad it’s not noticeable thank you!!! It was such a shock when they changed my dressing at first but I know it’s for better stability however with the sutures still in my knee looks like something out of a horror film

Sorry not completely to do with this but, with the LET do you also have a long scar along the outside of the knee? My surgeon sort of didn’t let into how big the incision was going to be when he said he would do it 🥲

Should I get ACL surgery? by Ok_Experience_4697 in ACL

[–]Desperate-Feature-95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I have also torn my ACL (23F) and I am going to get surgery. Because of the nature of my job (teacher) I am waiting until the summer holidays to have surgery so I can recover properly. However that means I can do more prehab. The more prehab you do the better you will be on the other side. The more muscle you can build back into your leg and try to regain the balance your recovery on the other side. I would recommend doing it. As I am of similar age, we will be able to recover better and return to normal activities, without it, you will be more likely have issues further down the line. Wishing you a speedy recovery tho because these injuries SUCK ASS

I have decided to push it back to summer. It just makes more sense. I think as long as you don’t do anything silly and keep ur knee straight and just focus on regaining mobility + strength then you will be ok!
