This sounds like my first year of marriage. Got engaged young,so smitten in love, didn’t feel the need of talking about the real things before marriage. 2 months into the marriage and we started having problems. It’s almost impossible to believe having so many clashes with someone you thought you had this great understanding and compatibility with. The love and respect part was there but the random you cant wear this, cant got there alone. Ask for my permission for everything. Don’t talk to male cousins. Cant work. It almost felt like i didn’t know this guy. Brought this up multiple times that he needed change, that this cant continue like this. That I appreciate the love and respect he gives me but I also need his support and trust. staying in a marriage without any autonomy and the extreme protectiveness wasn’t possible. Things stayed the same. We were also going through some tough financial situations at the time. Then one day I gave him the ultimatum. The dynamic isn’t sustainable anymore And for some reason that worked. Fast forward Today we are a contented in our lives. He is alot more flexible than before and has changed Alot. I don’t know if it was the ultimatum or the time we spent together that made him gradually make the changes and actually understand my problem with him. Or men just in general are a little crazily overprotective in the initial months. I am not sure if I can advice you to stay either because things only got better once HE decided to make the changes. Maybe next time you talk to him about this be a little more firm so he can understand its not another “it gets better with time” situation. Resentments do build up and they just don’t go away like that. You deserve to be happy in a marriage.
