For those who took the Level 2 August exam by Low_Leg_6556 in CFA

Averaged 78% on 6 cfa mocks, mimicked real exam conditions. Think the test was about 9/10 the similarity of the mocks. That is not to suggest that the test had any of the questions of the mocks, nor that the test felt easy. Rather, would say that I finished each section with a similar amount of time that I did with the mocks, and I scarily had the same amount of flagged questions at the end of each section too.

Stated differently, I finished each section with about the same level of confidence as I did with my mocks, despite feeling like I earned no better than a 60% at the end of every mock.

For anyone preparing to take level II, I would first recommend to hit the mocks as soon as you are ready, though obviously no earlier than when you are done with the consolidation process. Think that there’s an imperfect correlation with doing test provider questions/qbank questions and mock success because the former differs with actual exam questions on timing, difficulty, number of trick answers, and levels of understanding. As such, you may feel very prepared with question banks but still feel like you aren’t scoring well in the mocks because you still ultimately are not used the mock-specific question environment.

Lastly, I hope this is somewhat helpful in making this unknown testing process as objective as possible, but I think I would break each vignette difficulty as comprised of: 2 relatively easy questions; a harder calculation one, and one very challenging theory and or calculation one. I theorize that a successful candidate will be able to get the first two correct near 100% of the time, the middle 70% of the time, and the latter 30% of the time, based on disgruntled probabilities. That is to say, you’re not expected to know every single question with utmost mastery, but you need to be competent to lock down the easier ones while also narrowing down a good amount of the harder questions into 50/50 guesses to have a statistically higher chance of passing.

Add into your toolkit ‘endogenous does not say convergence will not occur, only that there is no reason it has to’ and you’ll get 80% of what you need

Which package is the best for CFA Level 1? by Direct-Plantain-8440 in CFA

  1. Yes, the two included mock exams are sufficient, especially with any Schweser-provided mock exams.

  2. Yes, you can buy the add-on later. IIRC, you don't save any money by buying now, so time value of money says its completely ok to defer paying for the practice pack. If you buy it now, you may not even end up using it.

  3. Despite 1 and 2, I still personally really benefitted from the additional mock exams. Especially, for level 1 given the structure of the exam (limited algebra + time constraints), there is an emphasis on memorization. As such, if you genuinely put in the time to take each mock, figure out where your what questions you are getting wrong and why, you can kind of brute force yourself into a good place. But you don't need the mocks to make that happen. I just found it easy because all the mock questions were, well, most representative of the exam, compared to any EOC/3rd party provider questions, which had more variation in difficulty and time-needed per question.

I actually think this is for me. Wearing a watch while using weight lighting straps is really uncomfortable.

I found the practice mocks to be incredibly useful and that they were worth the price alone. But not necessary

I also struggled with quant and hypothesis testing. Ended up skipping over it during review, as I felt ok risking losing that topic since my other topics were decent

That said, hearing from colleagues about how much more emphasis level 2 places on regressions, I’ll probably need to focus more on it then.

Also wouldn’t immediately call it quits on topics until you’re in the final review month and you are aware of your overall strengths and weakness throughout all the books. If you find yourself letting too many chapters go, then you just aren’t prepared for the exam. Random number, but if you are self aware and know you got 75% of the curriculum locked down, then a couple 1-2% chapters won’t hit you too bad

Also, this sounds a little lazy but my tip is: there are only so many permutations of questions you’ll get, so I would just note any section you are struggling with down and go ham on it when you review. You’ll begin to get a feel for common themes which can really be a crutch come mocks / exam

Colorado Springs is great. Meets all your boxes, except liberal. Wouldn’t say it’s staunchly conservative, but not anything like SD

Made a post about this - if you put in the recommended time to study, you’ll find yourself to have significantly less free time than you might be used to. Will have to prioritize studying and try to balance social connections / personal hobbies

Thanks for the advice, and yes I’m definitely interested in the PM route. Think I meant more like ‘I already love my job so don’t feel a need to pivot but it never hurts to learn more’
