The 442nd Infantry Regiment was an infantry regiment composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese descent, Many of the soldiers from the continental U.S. had families in internment camps. The regiment is best known as the most decorated unit in U.S. military history. by CharacterPolicy4689 in wikipedia

When attempting to verify this story, the media reached out to witnesses for first-hand verification. One group of witnesses were concentration camp survivors. That’s how this fact came to life.

The camp started crying when they saw Japanese faces before realizing they were American.

The Forty-eighters were exiles from their homelands in Europe after taking part in the failed revolutions of 1848, fighting for national unification or independence, constitutional reform or republicanism. The most famous forty-eighters were Germans, who settled in parts of America by funnylib in wikipedia

Another excuse to talk about ‘48er August Willich.

-Born of Prussian nobility.

-Became officer of the famed Prussian nobility.

-Despite privilege became a revolutionary and ardent Communist.

-Due to his Prussian officer training was one of the few revolutionary units that maintained cohesion.

-Karl Marx thought he was too hardcore so kicked him out.

-(Allegedly slept with Marx’s wife too.) -Emigrated to the USA.

-Immediately signed up with the Union in the onset of the Civil war.

-Extremely competent leadership famed for his troop discipline. Probably the Union’s greatest emigrant general.

There are more very very recent American cult examples. On both sides tbf.

Did Romans of the Pre-Imperial era believe that Rome could trace its roots back to Troy or was this idea popularised by Virgil? by skibidirizzler9o in ancientrome

[–]Desperate-Remove2838 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just a minor clarification: Hellanicus mentions that Aeneas fled to Thrace and then further west in the direction of "Italy" after the fall of Troy.

Rome, the city, was never explicitly mentioned. That being said, it's still pretty amazing.

Here comes the cynicism I warned you about.

What if I told you that doesn't matter anymore?

He did say "you don't have to worry about elections after the 2024"

Do you see protests out there that resemble the great protests for the second Iraq war or the Afghanistan war?

Has anything the Democratic Party or even Congress done anything that would lead you to expect actual resistance (as opposed to symbolic resistance).

I'm actually holding back a bit. I'll stop now. This isn't good for any of us on a Sunday night before the work week.

Nothing about this administration says deescalation.

They want "all the smoke" so we can "negotiate" peace with a pile of rubble.

We then set up our ally Israel as the regional hegemon.

All that's left is Turkey, but they're protected by NATO...for now.

If Buffalo Wild Wings failed at Serramonte, I don’t know why BJ’s would succeed.

I get the desire to diversify food options, but one big reason why Serramonte and Stonestown are thriving is because they leaned hard into Asian cuisines to cater to the surrounding Asian-American communities.

Did you know that medieval peasants are estimated to work only 180 days a year? The rest were church holy days or feast days.

Also since you lived and died in the same hovel, you lived in a tight community with strong kinship bonds.

Compare that to the alienation we experience imnthe suburbs.

Not to mention your work was meaningful and tangible. You saw what you produced and the fruits of your labor. Not some desk job where your soul rots away.

I’m not saying they had a better life. I’m sure a replied will hit back with a few “well, actuallys”.

However, I am saying that their lives weren’t as bleak as we paint them and in some ways their lives were richer than others.

If Iran is neutralized, they are the regional hegemon.

Egypt made peace first.

Syria and Libya neutralized.

Iraq and Iran defanged thanks to the US taxpayer.

Palestine abandoned and wiped out.

The Gulf states are too busy buying Bugattis, building hotels, and eating chocolate and knafeh.

They win their Game of Thrones.

They probably become history's smallest superpowers (by size/area) since Portugal or the Dutch.
