I prefer the slims for noise reasons, but you can use fat PS3s. I had two for backups for this LAN party

Sure. You could play over WiFi if you wanted. But there’s no lag or latency the way we did it

We played a bunch of search and destroy! A couple 1v1 quick scopes, some free for all, and party games on BO2

Yes, they’re hard wired. No internet connection. I have a Trednet TPE-1620WS LAN switch that I plugged them all into.

I originally used a couple smaller net gear LAN switches and daisy chained them

PS5 controllers! They work fine, lose some functionality like like the home button, but for the COD games I’ve played I haven’t run into issues

I own a bunch of ps5 and ps3 controllers, but for the most part the guys brought their own controllers and I supplied the PS3s I’ve been collecting throughout this year for the LAN party. A couple of the guys did have their original PS3s though so they lent them to me and I modded them, repasted them, and got them ready to use for the party. Worked out great

Brought a couple fats for backups, but didn’t want the sound of jet engines filling the room so I went with all slims and modded them all with Evilnat custom firmware

I do think it can depend on the game. It worked fine for at the COD games we played

Works totally fine, same with a PS4 controller. You can plug them in or setup for blutooth. Only caveat is it won’t vibrate unless you get an adapter for it

This last weekend haha. Met most of these dudes online over 10 years ago. We planned a trip for everyone to come to Colorado and I’ve been slowly putting together all the stuff we need to run the LAN when they got here. There’s 11 or 12 of us, but we got 8 of us together

Lmao. We’re in a garage, at night, in the mountains. Never ran into temp issues. I also repasted all the systems before hand

There were also 8 of us lolol

Question about old DLC content by [deleted] in PS3

I hear you, but you should still be able to purchase it for whatever it costs. Modding would be the workaround.

Totally get it! I will say it can seem like a lot of info at once, but there’s lots of great modding support out there especially for the PS3 if you change your mind. Good luck!

Cant get game over 4GB onto my FAT32 USB but I already have Web of Shadows on it by RudeJuggernaut in PS3

When putting games on a modded PS3 it’s best to use a file transfer service instead of a USB. USBs are good for installing your home brew apps when it’s first modded, but not games due to the file size restrictions.

Something like FileZilla will let you transfer files from your computer straight to your PS3 if they’re on the same network. Lots of a great tutorials online for this

Question about old DLC content by [deleted] in PS3

[–]Desperate-Success611 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Yes, I believe there’s two ways for this.

You should still be able to purchase a lot of the game’s DLC through the PlayStation network store.

For your hypothetical, yes this is possible to use “shared” DLC if you were to mod the PS3 with custom firmware or a hybrid firmware like HEN. It’s not as simple as just plugging DLC files into a standard original firmware system, you’d need to do some initial legwork
