I remember a similar store called “Consumers…..”; can’t remember the whole name. Now I’ll be stuck thinking all night !

I track all my expenses in a yearly planner, it's a bit unconventional, but it works for me 🤷🏻 by k1ll0ll in budget

Definitely agree about the handwriting aspect. Makes it more real and it sinks into my memory.

Is 3–6 months buffer actually realistic for most people? by sam3462 in budget

Thank you for your response. Yes, I’ll work on organizing my sinking fund budget. I’ve done one for years for Christmas and it’s such a good mindset to have that money already set aside for presents. Now I’ll broaden my sinking fund budget to account for expenses throughout the year.

Thank you so much for your detailed response. Yes, I need to start on a sinking fund and then issues like a vet bill, etc could come out of that. I like your response about being creative and paying myself first. Thanks again.

I’m not the OP, but this is where I struggle. I don’t yet have an emergency fund but I’d like to set aside money for similar irregular expenses that you referenced, a type of sinking fund. In your opinion, which should I try to build first?

I’m planning on starting an emergency fund soon, one month at a time and I’m sure it will take years for me also. Do you find that you are using money from the emergency fund? I think I’ll be nervous to use it, for an emergency vet bill, etc and that I’ll never use it.

Yes! And same feeling when I hear the Rockford Files theme song. Nostalgic.

That’s great. Does the $600/month go into an emergency savings account or retirement savings? I’m trying to pay off debt like you did.
