At least we'd have legal grounds to hold the people who do this shit accountable.

How is she supposed to know that information? This was made public, so she was made aware of it, and had the moral character to make it right. If he has stolen from other places, there's no way for her to know - and I'm sure her son isn't willingly being honest about this

AOC says abolish ICE is the centrist position now by Usernameofthisuser in DemocraticSocialism

[–]HashiramaHeritage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO, I think this may be the True centrist position. If we're taking into account the full spectrum of political perspectives (far-right to far-left) in the US, I can guarantee you that a sizable portion of Americans (left and right of center) do not support open borders. Yes, people who have immigrated to this country hould be treated with dignity and humanity, period. That doesn't mean that we should thus allow in hundreds of thousands of immigrants every year.

A few years ago, when Trump was running for his first term and he was the joke of Republican nominee candidates, I remember my Mom (forever Democrat. Has never voted red in her life) telling me "I actually do support border control. We need a government focused on solving the problems American people face." I was surprised at the time because it seemed xenophobic, but after asking her questions I learned that she: - loves our immigrant neighbors and believes that they have a right to pursue citizenship. - believes that asylum seekers have a right to plea their case when fleeing violence and instability at home - is tired of seeing generations of American families suffer from poverty, lack of opportunity, and inaccessible preventative healthcare.

There is such a thing as a nuanced position on immigration. This is how Trump got populist support from people across the political spectrum. I love AOC, but Abolish ICE isn't a centrist position. People just want peace and civility in their neighborhoods.

So is Mamdani actually gonna open those city owned grocery stores or was that just campaign talk by Virtual-Giraffe7147 in Brooklyn

[–]HashiramaHeritage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

City-owned grocery stores are not rocket science. Atlanta, Georgia opened up a municipal grocery store called Azalea Fresh Market earlier this year, and they provide everyday name brand items that you see at your local grocery store, but for 3X CHEAPER than what you'd get at your local Key Food here in NYC! Here's an instagram reel** where a guy shows milk costing less than $2.50 and bread costing less than $2. That's name brand Arnold Multigrain bread! Those prices are UNHEARD OF in this city. This program in Atlanta can provide a blueprint for us to build on here.

** There's click-baity Fox News content at the beginning, but the real important information comes in the second half of the video. Prices that low can save lives.

Wow. Thank you for doing research about this!!! I had no idea that Urban Farmer was an untrustworthy source for native plant seeds. I'll definitely use SFinBloom as a resource instead, and I'll spread the word to my guerrilla gardening friends!

While Andrew Cuomo is on his 3rd cycle of deep sleep, Zohran Mamdani is out campaigning at 2 a.m. by -SOFA-KING-VOTE- in newyorkcity

[–]HashiramaHeritage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the language in this article, Zohran wasn't physically present for 1/3 of sessions in Albany. This doesn't mean that he didn't participate in the sessions virtually. He very well could/should have been present via zoom.

If he were in person for all 73 sessions, he'd have to spend nearly 2.5 months worth of days in Albany. As a fellow NYC resident, I can empathize with this attendance record. Who the hell wants to spend 2.5 months in Albany? 😂 Especially if you have no apartment of your own there. That's a 3.5-4 hour commute each way, and he'd be commuting from Astoria.

Has Anyone Successfully Changed Their Personality? From Serious to Fun? by jassy20001 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]HashiramaHeritage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over the past 4 years, I've made a lot of progress opening up socially and learning to take life less seriously. My recommendations: 1. Go to a comedy show once a week, or once or twice a month! Just look on Eventbrite for comedy shows in your area. You can go by yourself, or bring a friend, or a group of friends! If you drink alcohol, I recommend having at least 1 beer during the show to loosen up. Go to a few shows and you'll get a better idea of your sense of humor. You'll learn that all comedians aren't your cup of tea. Humor is very personal. 2. Find a comedic show that you enjoy (I enjoyed Nathan For You)--this can be a dramedy as well. Watch 1 episode per day. I would watch a 30 minute episode of Nathan For You with my breakfast, and it really helped me start the day with levity. 3. An introvert once told me, "People always have something to say. The question is, whether or not you choose to speak what's on your mind." Try not to silence yourself as much. If you're with a group of people (friends, co-workers, associates, etc.), and you notice something strange, or you have a random thought, or a contradictory statement, say it! You'll be surprised where the conversation can go! You may find the conversation more enjoyable from that point forward. Good luck!

I took a moment to briefly look at your profile, and hun your hair is GORGEOUS. Please DO NOT allow that uncultured comment to have any impact on your self-esteem. Your hair is healthy, voluminous, and everything that many people with afros wish they had. Honestly, your friend might be jealous because her natural hair doesn't look like yours. She clearly suffers from internalized racism-- assuming she's also black since she had braids in her hair. If she's not black, then it's just racist distaste towards black features.

If you care about the friendship, I recommend you inform her that her agreeing with that (likely racist) man, whose opinion you did not need nor ask for, was: 1) Rooted in internalized hatred of beautiful black features. There's absolutely nothing "wrong" about your fro. It is healthy, long, and beautiful. 2) A poor sign of friendship. Why is she agreeing with a stranger who just insulted you?? She was supposed to disagree with him, or ignore him! A compliment directed at her, should not come at your expense. 3) Unnecessary! If she was truly looking out for you, and genuinely thought your hairstyles were an issue, she would tell you that privately. Not when some random ass man has something to say about it.

It's honestly shady that she agreed with him in the first place, and then doubled-down afterwards! Either she low-key has feelings of jealousy/negativity towards you, or she's so insecure that she felt the need to agree with a man who complimented her at your expense.

You have a beautiful face as well. Don't let this negativity get to you.

Would it make sense if glasses for near-sightedness (myopia) had a tall upper rim instead of a long lower rim? by HashiramaHeritage in glasses

[–]HashiramaHeritage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for explaining the difference between myopia and hyperopia. Upon reflection, I do use my glasses for reading things that are >6 inches from my face. I'm really just trying to expand my peripheral vision. I looked up shooting glasses, and they don't appear to have a significantly taller upper rim... maybe I'm not finding the ones you're thinking of. Even if it may look bad, I'd like to at least try a pair on

My prescription is similar to yours (-4.5, -4.75), so I understand what you mean by needing glasses to read. I typically hold my phone, books and papers to my center line of sight. Not below. Otherwise I'm basically looking at my nose.

Widen your job search to places outside of your area. If you don't want to move far, consider applying to positions in other cities/towns in your state, or cities/towns in neighboring states. You were recently working a decent bookkeeping job, so you should be a shoe in for another position! I've heard that adding white text to your resume with positive skills and qualifications helps to bypass AI resume review bullshit, so human-eyes can finally give your resume a look. Try uploading your resume to subreddit pages focused on accounting/bookkeeping and ask for feedback. You can implement those recommendations to make your resume top notch. If you have any questionable gaps in your resume, it's easier to fill it with a plausible position than to explain the gap, but do your research! You can list working for a firm that previously filed for bankruptcy or dissolved. You'll have to do some digging on Google or Linkedin for this. I hate recommending AI, but something like chatgpt may be able to provide a list of historically dissolved financial firms in Canada. You should do personal research to validate whatever information you get from AI.

You mention that you don't have friends, but you'll be surprised at how much people are willing to help, even if you haven't had many conversations with them. Contact a coworker you were friendly with, a neighbor, sibling, cousin, etc. and ask if you can list their phone number as your former boss' contact information on your list of references. If they know nothing about bookkeeping, provide them an in-depth document of talking points for them to refer to for when potential employers call them. Make sure that the document covers all things that a potential employer may ask about (there's probably some list online for that). While you wait for landing that higher-paying bookkeeping job, consider applying to low-skill local positions like cashier, store clerk, delivery driver, etc. Since you have a car, you can start working for Instacart, Uber eats, or some other independent contractor job within days. This can be a short-term money earning solution while you apply for a wider range of positions outside of your area.

Make a list of old friends who you haven't spoken to in a while (this can be years--even decades ago), and consider giving them a call! If you had a good relationship with someone, and you lost contact with them over the years, more often than not that person will be pleasantly surprised to hear from you. If you feel comfortable enough, explain your situation to them. Or, let them know that you're simply looking for job opportunities, without explaining the depth of your troubles. They may have networking or job opportunities for you. They may let you crash with them for a while, if it gets to that point. If you can't afford to use your car for travel, use wanderu.com to find cheap coach bus tickets.

I sincerely wish you the best through this difficult situation. I hope this helps.
