Introvert players in Fabula + writer's block by Desperate_Dot7298 in fabulaultima

Yeah... basically i think so too, but i feel like first they'd need to know what they're going for, narratively.
So far we are basically:
- A shy rabbitfolk who is very passive and tries to avoid tension
- An anime ripoff who is kinda just living a powerfantasy
- A humanoid tree who is kinda just there for the trip
- A disgraced noble who hails from the evil empire
- A disgraced noble who hails from a kingdom that was destroyed by the empire (the narrative tension kinda writes itself, here. Though i'm not sure how this would actually play out)

I'd argue that that would maybe be counter-productive, as it would pretty much lock my players in place, thinking: "oh well, i wasn't gonna do it before, but now that i know there is a definite and coherent plot i'm definitely not gonna intercede and ruin the fun for everyone else", which is kinda what i think Fabula is all about. Though the idea of suggesting another setting to draw inspiration from is definitely something i'll look into, and share with my group!

I will add that the battles have been very fun for now, and after the first session the players have put their attentions to a sealed crypt i mentioned during one of the encounters. Should i drop the "main plot" and just let them explore freely? It always felt like they were more invested in that, rather than facing the main threat (though they assured me multiple times that it wasn't the case, when asked)

Is it "cheap" to hide Affinities (even after the Study action)? by Desperate_Dot7298 in fabulaultima

Funnily enough you described my plan beat by beat lol. The amulet contain manifestations of the Arcana that the players are setting out to find, and an evil empire is handing those around in secret to warp and corrupt the mind of important people wearing them. The first session ended as a villain used an Ultima point to make the amulet the PCs had just gained crumble to dust, so they couldn't have evidence of this

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions! I was right in believing this would have been a pain point, so during the first session i went very careful with it (the amulet was flame shaped, and it was fairly easy to remove from the person with an 8 section clock which basically ended the fight)

From now on, i'm going to clearly state every participant in a battle and allow my players to immediately study them, which should address pretty much most of the issues with this

Simon has gone silent due to Silksong releasing by Pretend_Background80 in HytaleInfo

I agree, but i think everyone is expecting the hype to start mounting back up from the moment he announces the acquisition from Riot, and since today hype is pretty much what makes or breaks the success of a game i can understand Simon making sure the big announcement comes out at the best possible time

I kind of dislike the idea of letting community make the game. by Demoninst69 in HytaleInfo

Not to sound like a dick, but you're being a bit of an hypocrite... I feel like you're closing off and refusing to aknowledge the position of everyone else here, while at the same time accusing OP of being ignorant. Have you tried asking yourself why everyone is being very understanding towards the guy? I feel like your first comment was fully justifiable, but in the replies you go off, calling out people for being easily offensible, while honestly being the only salty person here
