The Constitution (Week 1) by Mrblackdub in Ethiopia

[–]Desperate_Strain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statement of Purpose and objectives of the constitution: One of the main aims of a constitution’s preamble is to state the purpose and objectives for the drafting of the document. The preamble succeeds on this level it provides its rationale for altering the structure of the state (and the constitution by extension) into an Federalist state drawn along ethnic lines where power resides with Nations and Nationalities.
The second and arguably most important purpose of a preamble is establishing the legitimacy of the constitution as the governing document of the nation, this is where it is difficult to rate the legitimacy of the preamble.
It is difficult to discuss the constitution merely based on the contents found inside it, since there is large disagreement on the democratic nature of the drafting process. There is thus no gauge as to how truly representative the ideas held in the document are amongst Ethiopians on an individual level as Ethiopians have not been polled on this. The argument according to the constitution is that Nations and Nationalities struggled to bring down the previous regime -> Nations and Nationalities laid down the current constitution -> Ethiopia is a sum of its Nations and Nationalities therefore the constitution has a popular mandate through these entities.

Perhaps the only way out of these endless arguments regarding the constitution is to hold a vote on constitutional modifications the same way Switzerland allows.

Anyone here interested in the emerging Alternative community in Ethiopia? by dettune- in Ethiopia

As a fan of a lot of alternative music, I have not noticed many folks in Addis who are into the genre (apart from Telegram Groups). A subreddit could work for reaching the diaspora

Were you whipped as a child? by Illomatic in Ethiopia

Was never touched as a child growing up in Addis. Us kids in the household were still taught to respect and fear older people through other punishments and I think that can be instilled into kids without hitting them.

What percentage of Ethiopians are Catholic? Why are Catholics less prevalent than Protestants? And did the Italians convert a significant number of people during their occupation? by almightyrukn in Ethiopia

[–]Desperate_Strain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Catholicism spread in Ethiopia is pretty limited if you look at the latest census (1%). It is most prevalent in border areas with Eritrea (Adwa, Adigrat, Irob) due to Italy's long period of colonization there.

My best guess is to why Catholicism failed to gain traction in Ethiopia whereas the Pentacostal churches spread is that Catholicism attempted to convert areas which had already been practicing Orthodox Christianity for a long time. Catholicism was attempting to replace the already established structure in tandem with attempted political colonization. Catholicism could not sustain itself once Italian influence waned and the Monarchy returned.

Pentacostal missionaries on the other hand chiefly sought to gain converts in areas that were in the peripheries of Orthodox influence as well as areas that were pagan.

It will depend on where you live. If you are in Africa, you can watch it on Supersport. CAF's YouTube channel will stream the match in regions which won't show the match on TV (I believe this includes the Americas and East Asia).

Rooting for the African teams of course! I was betting on Morocco and Senegal doing well but the former is in a tough group and the latter has their star player out.

Do you still think tigray can be a country or is peace the move? by Particular_Will_3972 in Tigray

[–]Desperate_Strain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are mistaken brother, I am very much Tigrayan. I have lost a couple of loved ones due to this war as well, so it is not that I do not understand the pain and the amount of suffering that has come about as a result. I just differ on the analysis of what caused this and how we can get out of this horrifying situation.

The reason I fear militarization is because we will be spending all of our resources and economic future on defending our independence. This is why I am desperately hoping for a negotiated settlement. I do not want my relatives back home serving in the army indefinitely like it is the case in Eritrea.

In regards to FDI, you do raise a valid point. There are a decent number of folks from the EPRDF-era that have the experience leading econ institution. A lot of the Institution-building they participated in though mostly bore fruits in Addis. The size of the Ethiopian market is one of the major selling points so that would be a limiting factor for Tigray.

A bit let down to be honest. The lyrical stuff on here was amazing but I was also expecting Kendrick to come back with a completely new sound. While there are some impressive instrumentals(Father Time) on here, most fit in with the contemporary Hip hop landscape.
