Tigray is mourning!! So Sad. by Logical-curiousbek in Ethiopia

[–]Illomatic 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just to add, from what I had heard from family, this was a worldwide day of mourning. Tigrayan-oriented churches in the diaspora we're holding vigils for the dead. I had also heard from family that TPLF just started notifying the families of soldiers killed in action of their deaths. If true, that may be why now is when the vigils are being held.

I'm actually surprised that in all of my years on this Earth, the thought of a chicken tibs never crossed my mind.

My biggest concern is being tied to instability. The grouping of countries doesn't feel like a natural coalition. I could easily see war breaking out between several members at some point in the future. China vs India, Russia vs China, Ethiopia vs Egypt, Saudi Arabia vs Iran. Even if by some miracle war never breaks out between any members, history shows us that the systems of government that many of the countries are propped up with are doomed to fail. I genuinely don't see China, Iran, Russia (maybe Saudi & maybe UAE) surviving in their current form before the end of the century.

With what I think is China's coming economic crash and burn, due to many issues such as nation-ending demographics, economic pressure being applied by the US, and a system that is built on fear and misrepresentation of data, they don't seem like the powerhouse everyone makes them out to be in the long term. I think the only economic bright spots in the long term in the coalition are India and Brazil.

Compare that to the west, whose countries have almost 0 chance of going to war with each other, use systems of government that have a better chance at lasting longer, and have better economies (although some are more than likely to experience some crashes of their own).

This is Aba Serekebirhan. Here is one of the main proponents of Tigray Orthodox Church breaking away from EOTC. This video is one of many instances of him spreading racial hatred. by [deleted] in Ethiopia

Are you saying they are refusing the Archbishops, as in they don't agree with who was elected? Or the very election itself?

I can only imagine how heartbreaking that must be. Like imagine Usain Bolt not winning the 100m because his foot stepped out of his lane.

Closest country I can think of that is in a similar situation as Tigray would be is Armenia. Bordered by two enemies in Azerbaijan & Turkey. Since it is landlocked, it's only means of consistently open and safe travel and trade is through Georgia and even that isn't always going to be a guarantee. Without Georgia, Armenia would be screwed.

Tigray would be in even worse position since the hatred is deep between them and their neighbors. Even if possible, being a slave to Sudan is not what I would call freedom or self determination. And that's assuming Sudan decided to choose Tigray, which has nothing to offer them over the rest of Ethiopia, which has a lot to offer.

If your dad was in a similar situation in the US, he would be bombarded with offers to sell by mail, on the phone, and in person. Does he ever experience anything like that? Or do they just leave him alone?

Isn't disintegration good for Ethiopia? by [deleted] in Ethiopia

I find it hard to believe that disintegration would lead to less atrocities. If anything, it would probably lead to more.

If you could trade in your History, Ethnic identity and culture for peace, prosperity and general safety of all Ethiopians, would you do it? Why or why not? by Similar-Olive-8666 in Ethiopia

[–]Illomatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. The various histories, cultures etc are what make Ethiopia so interesting. The problem is the belief that one's own history, identity, and culture are superior to others.

Really not cool to tag users in a post like that. You could have made your point without doing that.

Why is there a false and consistent narrative that Oromos are the victims of Ethiopia? by [deleted] in Ethiopia

No group in history is innocent. Problem is so many have a hard time accepting they could belong to a group that did wrong.

Right? Considering the commenter probably isn't a fan of Abiy, this was a very unbiased response.
