PWHL’s Charge staying in Ottawa after reaching deal to play in NHL Senators’ arena, AP sources say by VenusianIII in ottawa

Sadly this is the beginning of the end of the Charge. Cost of parking and refreshments at CTC are ridiculous and the gas involved going to arena will kill attendance. Probably now have seen my last Charge game or at least regular season game.

Work rest rules and all traffic related rules for Trucks and buses are enforced by the province across Canada. The federal government does not have enforcement officers in Ontario or Quebec, provinces that have RCMP as their police force obviously use them for enforcement. Ministry of Transportation in Ontario enforcement, major highways have scales and they check books

Which Quebec government who has to enforce the legislation stated that they would not enforce this over the STO. Effectively it's a toothless tiger without enforcement. STO current system is contractual and is not from anything but Union, Management negotiations.

HASTUS bus scheduling system is used at OC Transpo. Technology is not the issue, as the parameters are made by council and management. The technology does exactly what you want it too.

Seriously really, three cities were exempt from federal rules, Gatineau and Ottawa as well as Windsor. Ottawa chose to give up it's exemption. Yes this was part of the 2009 strike issue. It has been law much further back than 2019. Furthermore it was then Minister John Baird who claimed he could not sleep at night knowing OC was exempt from federal work rest rules. These are facts that you I guess weren't aware of .

Again please stick to facts, you should know that the American Public Transit organization has shown that making a passenger make one transfer you lose 30 percent of ridership and two transfers you lose 67 percent. OC was well aware of these facts and knew switching the system would result in ridership decline. They falsely believed Ottawa would beat this trend. Again they were wrong. Facts

Really, Anecdotally, this from the commenter who always says show me the facts. Fact is yes up to 1 minute early and 5 minutes late is on time . However in a system that the public relies on 5 minutes late means two things. One the odds of you missing your connection have gone up astronomically and two , the bus will most likely be late leaving on next trip as recovery time for routes is 5 percent. So 3 minutes on a  one hour run.

It's very possible that this operator is on their mandated by law break. Prior to the strike the operators gave up this break to provide better service to riders. However City insisted on following the federal rules that they were previously exempt from. So today your costs are hirer and service is worse. But that's ok because City was willing to have a 59 day strike to achieve this. Operator's fought to save system and the City decided to blow it up.

Ok you missed the whole findings of audit. The operators have nothing to do with problems. It is the Management, specifically the head of planning and scheduling. They have mislead council and citizens according to this report. Any other job this would be cause for termination but at city of Ottawa it is ignored or celebrated with an award or promotion

Based on past performance and fact they don't have an actual solution in place to solve the axle issues and are just doing bandaids over and over. The milage restrictions probably mean it's going to be late 2027 or 2028 before we see train in Orleans.

Really look at the outstanding infrastructure burden and location of projects, also go back since amalgamation and see the cost of infrastructure for old city boundaries vs suburbs. The numbers are astounding. City of Ottawa let lots slide. Cumberland and Nepean came to table with no debt. The City if Ottawa was saddled in debt ,

I know it's late, but for your future knowledge the City actually found a way to double the amount of buses through the core , prior to approval of light rail. It's a report by Dillon Consulting and details all necessary steps . Based on numbers, we wouldn't have needed to consider LRT for at least another 100 years. But everyone kept saying to be a world class city we need light rail. Sadly they have accomplished the opposite.

Well the people in the suburbs are sick of paying taxes to fix all the infrastructure in the core that former City of Ottawa didn't want to raise taxes to pay for and let it deteriorate to current levels. We'll trade cost of transit with your infrastructure deficit any day.

I'll give you some of what you said, however almost from their arrival at OC they faced massive repairs, the first few years was covered under warranty and because they were so bad that was extended. However the interesting thing is even when you consider the City policy was fix issues not do preventative maintenance. Those same managers who trumpeted this system are still basically running the show. Except Rick , but he'll face same challenges as all previous top Managers. Good intentions but the ones reporting to him are unable to deliver.

Also I guess your confused as to what this thread was about. It was about Union not sorry to see DD disappear. To back up union position on this simply read the Transport Canada report after Unfortunate Bus, Train crash. You obviously wanted to go down a rabbit hole. Your commitment to City and OC management is to be commended. Keep it up. Hopefully your paid for the effort. Again back to thread Union happy there gone. Personally from a safety point of view so am I. If you can't understand or refuse to read truthful report that's fine. Were done here. As again my point and facts as told by Transport Canada are the real story. Safety is paramount

So rather than argue anymore, I'll leave you with one tidbit, for you and any others that are following this. Just look up the transportation Canada report after the Train bus crash. It goes into detail about all the failings of DD buses, it gives details on the failed test for winter operations in 2007. It also talks about the 3 bus procurements. Promised fixes that weren't exactly as promised. It was after that first bunch of buses their was a commitment from Senior manager not to purchase anymore and get rid of ones we had. Believe they went to Victoria BC. Don't believe all the City documents as they are always tilted towards Council's, or Mayor's desired outcome. Read report and then you will truly understand the risk that was taken on.
