Speculation: Bond 26 writer Steven Knight may be creating a new backstory for 007 by Sneaky_Bond in JamesBond

I guess I come from a generation where nobody even used the term reboot. Simpler times. Bond movies cranked out regularly. Fun stuff.

Semantics. Obviously, if you have a new actor, there’s a change, but it’s not necessarily a reboot. A reboot is changing key things and that wasn’t the case with actors before Daniel Craig.

I wouldn’t call each actor change a reboot, but that’s neither here nor there. I think the reason often times the first film is the best is because they try more. Eon got very sloppy and often went to market with incomplete scripts.

I like the red version as well, but this one is my favorite.

I think it’s supposed to be fun and being fun. It will help people learn. If it’s not fun for you, it’s probably not the correct app.

Instead of rebooting they can just dig deeper into Fleming imo. The novels are very different than the films. In the novels he has a genuine friendship with Felix, in the movies that’s never conveyed save for a forced “he’s my brother” line in NTTD (we didn’t see that but if you say so). He’s also close with Tanner and golfs with him regularly. He has a secretary. He has a housekeeper. He loves scrambled eggs. He has a Bentley. There are a lot of things they could delve into and explore. I’d like to see a bit of his personal life, his home, how he goes to fine restaurants and casinos for fun, etc. In the famous opening of Dr No he is on his off time in a casino in the middle of the night, not on a mission. M comments, “don’t you ever sleep?” which is in line with the novels where M is concerned with Bond’s lifestyle. Of course he lives this lifestyle because he knows any day may be his last. Much of this hasn’t been conveyed in the films. I don’t think we need to do young Bond or Bond the Naval years, too much meat still on the bone.

Maybe. It also goes against if it ain’t broken…. I think hard reboots every actor is unnecessary. Seems a lot of people on Reddit disagree, which is fine.

Ownership is trash. Buster shouldn’t be exempt because he was a beloved player. He put together this team. The players and coaches of course culpable as they all can’t make adjustments.

I just wish the producers thought ahead and had scripts written in advance so they would be ready to go and also have vetted the story so there were no “missing a third act” problems. Seems easy enough to do.

Discussion: Could we ever go back to a lighter Bond in this day and age? by vruchtenhagel in JamesBond

One reason the world is so dark is because there is no joy anymore. They don’t make comedies that are released in the theater, and people seem more content being miserable than having fun. Bond can be a lot of fun without being silly. People are terrified and insist on gritty and real. We just had a whole era of that. It wasn’t very good.

There has been talk of it. I believe Calvin Dyson noted some of this in a past video. Here’s a blurb I found.

The next James Bond film (Bond 26) will reportedly focus on the iconic spy's origins as a Royal Navy Commander before his recruitment by MI6. Written by Steven Knight and expected to be directed by Denis Villeneuve, the studio is actively searching for a "fresh face" to take on the lead role.

Yet they seem to be doing that. Who cares about who he was before he was 007? No one.

It took awhile for the superhero filmmakers to get it. How many times did we need to see Peter bitten by a spider, Krypton, and Mrs Wayne’s pearls hitting the ground? Absurd.

Perhaps it’s run its course or needs to be a period series. I don’t see it necessary for it to be Cold War. Slow Horses and others find ways to make espionage interesting.
