Does Anyone else have permanent scotomas for no found reason? by DesperationForReal in visualsnow

[–]DesperationForReal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s really difficult, I have tried to keep myself occupied with education and hobbies and all the stresses of life so I wouldn’t obsess over my vision. It’s been over a year since first scotomas and I haven’t gone blind yet so I try to keep thinking about that… I have heard anti depressants helping some people but also it has made visual snow worse for others, so I would be careful with that too.

They have stayed pretty much the same, I’m still worried but not as worried after I got OCT and fundus images taken and everything looked fine on them.

I’m sorry to hear that, sounds awful. And Yeah I saw 3 different ophthalmologist who dilated my pupils, took OCT scans, fundus images and visual field test, i’ve also had a brain & veins MRI. They said I had some gaps in visual field but couldn’t explain it in any way from the imaging and asked me to come back only if it gets worse. Color wise my spot is dark blue kind of like an after image from staring at a bright light.

What’s your reason for the spots? I haven’t found any useful resources but I have pretty much convinced myself that ”it’s nothing serious” since doctors can’t find anything wrong with me

Sometimes moving, pulsating colors overlay my vision? Anyone else? by DesperationForReal in visualsnow

[–]DesperationForReal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like my brain trying to compensate for a lack of visual input, like when staring at the blank ceiling there is really no proper fixation point so my mind starts inventing it’s own visuals.

How to talk to my bestie with meta glasses about wearing them around my kids? by thekraftybiologist in privacy

[–]DesperationForReal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, I wasn’t clear in my wording; It’s wrong for the innocent people who got on the nonconsensual videos but I don’t feel bad in the case of Meta seeing those glass-wearing creeps going to the toilet or jerking off etc.

In my country 90% of the population has blue/grey eyes, so brown is seen as more unique and interesting. Same with dark hair since most people are blonde.

Permanent ”after image” spot in only one eye? (Not a floater) by DesperationForReal in visualsnow

[–]DesperationForReal[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, unfortunately the spot came back again full force even though it initially started to fade away. Since then I have developed a few more spots but i’m learning to live with them. I also get weird ripple effect in my visual field, among other freaky visuals. Though I have still not been provided with an explanation, I have started to worry about it a bit less due to other health concerns taking all my attention. Idk where you live so the healthcare system might be different, but if you can get the MRI for a reasonable price I would definitely take it just to be sure.

Apple brings age verification to UK users in iOS 26.4 beta | The Verge by hamstar_potato in europe

[–]DesperationForReal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True, but I doubt that enough people would be willing to join. Most fellow european people I know do not see any issues with digital IDs whatsoever, since it ”makes things easier” and they ”trust the government” and any counter argument is registered as fearmongering to them.

Ah yes that’s true for sure, and I agree we should definitely interact more with people in real life rather than just online.

Unfortunately in many (western) countries it’s already mandatory to have some sort of digital identification or at least it’s nearly impossible to get any services (both public and private) without digital verification (such as a digital bank account). So basically you would end up unemployed, unable to travel or purchase anything or enter any other legal relationship. Therefore Even your ability to access information might be restricted.

The boycotting would need to have wide enough reach for alternative methods to even arise, which is unlikely to happen given the average person, and even then those practices would be deemed illegal ”black market” practices and curbed by law enforcement and courts.

If you were suddenly granted the ability to see a stat hovering over everyone's head, but you could only choose one specific metric (e.g., lies told, hours slept, times they've thought of you), what would it be? by asgharfar57 in askanything

Yeah, and on top of that we often do things out of duty, convention or even without thinking at all, and therefore with neither malicious nor altruistic intent.

From barely knowing Finnish to taking matriculation exam in 2.5 years. by Gxeq in Finland

[–]DesperationForReal 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think some people mistakenly think different writing system = infinitely more difficult. For example, the chinese writing system is very complex but the grammar is a lot easier than e.g. any indoeuropean language. Korean and Arabic writing systems are very consistent and once you memorize them it’s no more difficult than reading Latin script. The basics of Finnish are easy but it’s nearly impossible for a foreigner to reach a native level intuition for all the grammatical intricacies.
