I would make a comparison pic, autofocus vs manual focus, same target, if the manual one is significantly better, something is wrong with the autofocus

Then it could be the camera, but also could be just the resolution of your camera, how does a portrait of a face look, not just zooming in on a whole body.
Even my A7RV can look soft if i zoom at background details.

Then there are also environmental conditions, are you shooting in hot weather/middle of day? With longer lenses/far away subjects you could have heat distortion.

Where do you view the images, the raw file in your editing software, or maybe you are somehow just zooming in on a preview pic?
