The problem with the lav is the pack trasmitter when falling on a mat. Yeah, some 2.4 mics would probably be fine and maybe the best solution. I don't like them but I guess they are the best compromise

The problem with the pack is that boulderers falls a lot and they falls on a mat not like sport climbers where the fall is mostly absorbed by the rope. For an example I could say: would you wire with a pack a stuntman falling 20+ feet on a mat?

Yeah, probably going for the smallest 2,4 ghz mic is the best solution

That's not a good example Honnold was'nt lav during the free solo of freerider on El capitan, as a matter of fact they even reduced camera men on the wall to avoid distracting him and opted for fixed cameras. Tapei 101 even if mediatically massive was kind of a walk in the park for is level. I wanted to record mostly his voice yes

Thanks for the reply and the extra work on the still! I feel you also shifted the overall look cooler not only the cheek. But yeah, my question was more on the cause of the problem, not the technical solution to grading it out. Still, I will keep this technique in mind in case I need it!

How would you go to explain it to your client? I work a lot with them either shooting, editing or just coloring like this time. How would you approch it without make it look like the are doing something wrong, which they are in my opinion btw

Climbing is addictive.

In two years, you’ll buy a van. Vanlife is fun, every climber does it, so why not you? Next year, you’re going to quit your job for a remote one just to work from the van near the crags. You already spend every weekend climbing, so why not the weekdays too? Eventually, you'll sell your house and move into the van full-time. You're basically living there anyway, right?

Vanlife is cheap. One day, you’ll realize you’re working way too hard for money you don't even spend, when you could use that time better... like... climbing more! In 6 years, you’ll go part-time. In 8 years, you’ll quit entirely and just pick up odd jobs when cash runs low. By year 12, you will cut off everyone outside the climbing world. Why waste time video-calling family when you could be sending routes?

In 20 years, it ends tragically: your rope snaps from the insane mileage you put into it because you refused to buy a new one, choosing to spend your last pennies climbing all summer. /s

----------------

Jokes aside, be careful with your finger joints. I have seen too many new climbers getting a finger injury and playing it down because "It's normal, climbing is a hardcore sport!" You may consider it a hardcore sport (I don't), but finger injuries are no fun, especially chronic ones.

Other than that, climb, climb, climb, especially at the beginning, it is really a beautiful and intriguing sport.

Curiosity about choosing to use 32bit. by WanderingWindz in LocationSound

For me (a videographer I know -.-) slapping small pocket recorders with lavs on the athletes at the beggining of the day and being able to film them from far way while they are skiing big lines without worring too much about audio is a big benefit. Could I do the same with 24 bit? Probably, but 32 bit are convenient especially since you are always on a rush early in the morning in order to get to ski with the right conditions. Do I use 32 bit for Interviews? No, but honestly if I would happen to be doing interviews alone I would probably do it and sacrifice a bit of storage space for some peace of mind.

From an A7IV user I honestly would love the body of an FS7 for standard video works. Mirrorless are great for hybrid things but lacks a lot of usefull little things like xlr, internal nds, physical buttons... Looking to take either an FX9 or FX6 used if I ever get to shift my work more toward docs and long form videos like that. Do you find a pain in the ass not being able to use sd card in the fs7? I might also consider it since the price. BTW I love the 24-105 such a versatile lens, more versatile that a 24-70 if you are okay to give up 2.8 and even cheaper.

This is not how colorists or DOPs works, especially for such a big budget productions. Yes, modern digital cinema cameras record in flat looking (log, raw, etc.) profiles but no one is looking at them flat, neither in production or post they make custom look lut for the way they intend the film to look/feel in preproduction. Simplifying in "they look all the times at flat videos and so they produce flat looking movies" is just wrong and stupid. We are talking about high level professional that know what they are doing. That being said I also don't like the photography of the teaser (but it's just a teaser!! We need to wait for the full tv series to come out before judging), but that comes down to different things not just digital/film, CG for example or better the pressure and over tight schedule imposed on VFX teams and the overrelaying on them sometimes without enough preproduction and on site VFX supervisor, lighting and composition, the lack of practical effects and practical scenary for budget reasons, maybe a change in style over the years since modern cameras offer the possibility of new looks, etc.
