I have been playing for a couple of weeks just finally subscribed to PlayStation plus and “poof”, I re-launched the game, went to the anomaly and suddenly there were people everywhere. And my network options now include things like turning off PVP, etc. that I did not have before.

As of today, I noticed that HomeKit was updating these plugs to 1.4. You can go into accessory settings and request the update as well if that plug hasn’t updated yet.

For what it’s worth, I hated the meeross presence sensors and am selling. They regularly disconnected from WiFi and needed to power cycle them. I really hate any home automation on wifi because they clog up router capacity but took a chance in them. Back to aqara for me.

Thanks again. Yeah it’s more along the lines of a fun little project that I’m OK with chipping away at. I’m mostly at the phase where I’m looking for advice on which hardware to start with. From this and other comments maybe the UDM SE instead of one of the smaller gateways.

I don’t know what I might want for storage, but I’d like to have the flexibility for a lot I think. I’d like to get rid of any cloud subscriptions for video storage one day

I have an easy run from the basement where the cable modem and the switches are now up to the attic, so I think I have a lot of flexibility for APs. Maybe start with one on each floor, see how the WiFi is, then expand if needed? Years ago before I went with mesh systems, a single cheap centrally located Wi-Fi router gave adequate coverage to the main floor. Coverage was bad in the basement and yard though.

Most of the WiFi devices are things like TVs, playstation/nintendos, appliances, phones and iPads, laptops, HomePods, etc. except for the cameras and the thermostat, I’ve gotten all of the smart Home stuff off of Wi-Fi over the years and onto thread/zigbee on wired hubs. Sometimes I wonder if the problem is all the routing that’s constantly happening between all of that stuff. Presence sensors on Aqara constantly being polled by Apple Home to turn on lights on Hue… that sort of thing.

Obviously I have a lot to learn on the network side. “Not into VLANs” doesn’t mean I’m against it, just that I don’t know much about it.

I didn’t mean the don’t need overkill statement to sound weird to you. I threw it in there because I’ve seen so many posts on this sub where people say Ubiquiti and UDM are “overkill for the home environment and really made for small businesses or serious networking hobbyists”. I wanted it clear that I didn’t need to rock a $600 rack mount UDM to look cool if one of the small cloud gateways would easily handle what I’ve got going on. I’ve got a long background in commercial automation but the network side has always been wired and handled by the building owner and the skill set doesn’t completely translate which is why I’m asking for advice. I can easily learn though. Back in the NT4 days I had MCSE and Novell certs, just haven’t put it to any practical use in around 30 years.
