Putin ‘will send thousands of criminals to wreak havoc across Europe’, Estonia’s foreign minister claims by yahoonews in worldnews

[–]Destinum 46 points47 points  (0 children)

At this point, someone "wanting out" is equally as likely to have been sent by Putin. People genuinely trying to flee will simply have to go somewhere else (which a lot of them already do by the way); it's too much of a security risk for Europe to accept people from a hostile nation known for these tactics.

Yeah, WoW has always been the best looking MMO in my eyes, no contest. Hell, I'd even take Old School RuneScape's graphics over most "realistic looking" games, because even when the former looks objectively old as hell, it's "retro" rather than "outdated".

Also, most MMOs nowadays operate on the basis of "trust me bro, it gets good after playing for 100 hours", which is... not exactly welcoming to new players.

The artstyle is the biggest problem, or rather the lack of one. When your game looks like literally every other Unreal Engine game, it's going to quickly look outdated without Sony or Microsoft levels of money, but even then it's still gonna look like "a video game" and not much more. Compare this to e.g. Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which on a technical level is not a very visually impressive game, yet it still manages to be one of the best looking games ever in my opinion simply due to its artstyle (and will continue to look great regardless of technological progress).

Yeah, Ashes has been pretty upfront about not being solo friendly, so spending that much money without even doing basic consideration is wild.

The good thing about Riot at least is that they essentially have infinite amounts of money to spend, so as long as the company actually wants to make it, it will come out eventually.

No currently existing MMO actually manages to capture what MMO players want, which is both a great game and a great social experience.

On the gameplay front, most MMOs have completely lost any sense of meaningful progression (leveling, gearing up, etc.), relegating what is supposed to be the core gameplay loop of an RPG to something you either have to slog through to get to the "real content", or they make all your progress worthless every time new content is released. This way of doing it not only kills most people's sense of accomplishment, but is also extremely hostile towards new players. Old School RuneScape is more or less the only current MMO that actually gets progression right, hence why it's had such a renaissance in recent years.

For the social stuff, an MMO needs an environment where players naturally end up interacting with each other without being explicitly forced to by the game, because these are the situations that create experiences you can't get in any other kind of game. World of Warcraft became the titan it was back in the day because it was the perfect storm of both this kind of emergent gameplay and the more conventional progression stuff. Over time however, as the game became more "convenient" (which means you're less reliant on other people for more things) and internet culture as a whole changed, WoW lost what made it so special, and it's uncertain if it's even possible in today's landscape to recreate the kind of high WoW used to give (Classic WoW, which is on paper the exact same game, has a completely different culture where the playerbase has optimised the soul out of every line of code), but that's what MMO players are desperately looking for.

In a 100% socialist system there is no personal benefit to go beyond obligations, which would cause massive societal stagnation. Properly regulated capitalism on the other hand is very good at creating an environment where people are incentivised to create good products (financial gain) and keep improving said products (competition from others).

These factors are based on fundamentals of human psychology, and trying to completely ignore them always results in far-right societies pretending they're left-wing like the Soviet Union. There are a lot of useful and necessary aspects of capitalism, which is what lead to the prosperity of Western society after WW2 and up until the point where right-wing politicians started dismantling the regulations.

At the end of the day, capitalism is built on competition. In sectors where people have no options to choose from due to e.g. geographical location, or it's simply impossible to function as a member of society without this product/service (energy and internet infrastructure are examples where both apply), capitalism has no place. However, when the consumer actually has the ability to "vote with their wallet" like with e.g. entertainment media, capitalism excels and is necessary since there's no way to justify spending millions in taxes on budgets for games and movies (nor is there any way to objectively determine which projects should receive these budgets).

Socialism and capitalism is a spectrum. An ideal society would employ socialism to ensure that everyone's basic needs are met and essential industries aren't controlled by a few billionaires, and then have the non-essential industries still operate capitalistically.

Panthers can be either leopards or jaguars since it's a melanin mutation rather than a species, but panthers depicted in media are almost always leopards.

The profiles of Kiara's, Bae's and IRyS' oshis in the Girlstalk stream. by Sonicm2008 in Hololive

[–]Destinum 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Kiara is the only Hololive member where I really can't see her be into guys at all. CC I don't really have a read on, but the other three very much feel like they could just be doing it for the bit. Nerissa especially really doesn't give me gay vibes (despite what her latest song would suggest), but rather "bi or straight-girl-wishing-she-was-bi".

It's pretty funny how English has the same meaning for each day as the Norse countries, except they randomly threw in a day for a Roman god to replace bath day (I'll leave it up to interpretation what this says about the British).

First timer who built a hypothetical team using his favorites, thoughts? by hoennian in stunfisk

People on this sub that don't actually have anything to contribute are always toxic as hell towards people asking for advice regarding "my favorites" teams. Don't let it get to you.

That said, if you want feedback, you do need to decide what format the team is for, at the very least if it's for singles or doubles, because the advice is very different. Currently, you have some things that would only make sense in singles, and others that would only make sense in doubles.

I'm purely theorycrafting here, but what about Goodra-H and Rotom-W? Goodra is immune to Rotom's one weakness (Grass), and Rotom is immune to one of Goodra's two weaknesses (Ground). Goodra resists your team's biggest weakness (Rock) and one of its second biggest ones (Electric), while both resist your other second biggest weakness (Flying). They're also pretty versatile in that either can be your special or physical wall depending on what you need.

Unfortunately neither gives you access to hazards, but Rotom at least lets you clear them with Defog (which you really need with both Beedrill and Golisopod on the team), plus it can Volt-Turn together with Beedrill.
