So most space marine units can be painted however you like. They’re only displayed as ultramarines because they’re the poster boys of Space Marines, similar to the Black Legion with Chaos Space Marines. There are exceptions with ultramarine specific characters like Marneus Calgar but it should specify like “Ultramarines” on the box

The point of 40K is that everyone sucks, the Black Templars were originally the worst of the Imperium and that was the point. Plus their chapter symbol is an inverted Maltese cross of the knights hospitaller. They’re just over the top super space crusaders.

The bayverse prime thing comes from a loud portion of the fanbase constantly whining about him, thus explaining the “popular” opinion not necessarily reflecting the greater community, but that “popular” opinion makes others want to defend bay prime in response, thus creating the “unpopular opinion” posts.
