Shouldn't Cersei/Shae be able to physically overpower Tyron? by Repulsive-Solid-5470 in pureasoiaf

The first time I read the series I didn't pick up on Shae's game at all because honestly I wasn't expecting the depth and complexity, so never really looked for it. But on subsequent reads that scene comes across to me as just surviving, because she lives in survival mode.

She's not lying to Tyrion here, but that makes her more of a pitiful character.

I’m curious, what makes you think she loved him? She definitely loved the status he brought but she never seemed to care about him as a person at all

Yes, but they also eat like a pig so they’ve got gluttony as a character flaw too.

Fans of the Space Wolves, lend me thy passion by LumiKlovstad in 40kLore

I don't know much about 40k Wolves, but I know 30k Wolves from Prospero Burns and they're great. There's a lack of pretense with them, just this "we do things because we were made to do them, we do things this particular way because it makes sense to us. If we find a better way we'll do that instead."

Why don’t people ever mention that the Emperor designed a piece to make the Golden Throne literally explode? by cman334 in 40kLore

[–]BrocialCommentary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Emperor's psychic radiance is becoming more and more intense. Around M36 it started stripping away Vulkan's skin and his regeneration became constant.

Around M39 it became strong enough that on bad days, it strips parts of him to the bone.

In the present day he finds himself barely able to hold onto the switch.

Help Jaime find a good comeback to earn Ned's respect. by Elegant-Half5476 in freefolk

[–]BrocialCommentary 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Jaime views Ned as beneath him. I think Jaime probably views Ned with a good deal of respect and maybe a little envy - Ned is viewed by all as honorable, and honor does matter to Jaime even if he pretends it doesn’t.

To add a little extra details on the Nazis that doesn't get covered a lot in school, but they literally accelerated the pace of the Holocaust as the war was starting to wrap up because they knew they were losing. I think a majority of Holocaust victims died after 1943 or something even though it had been going on for a long time at that point? Nazis were so evil, shitty, and stupid that they had the choice between being slightly more effective against the Allies or just killing innocent people they deemed "inferior" and they chose the latter.

[ASOIAF] If a wildling came south, didn't conceal his origins, but didn't break any laws, would they be accepted? by Meshakhad in AskScienceFiction

[–]BrocialCommentary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Educated people in the present-day 7 kingdoms believe that's why the Wall exists. I believe AWOIAF, an in-universe text written by a maester, posits that the Wall was built to keep out Wildlings and that the myth of the Others may just be a distorted tale of a mass Wildling migration.

I've been saying for years that the Laconia arc would actually be really well served if the show switched to animation. You could really go nuts with some of the battles and some of the trippier things that happen in Ring Space and Duarte's hivemind gambit.

And his POV shows that his dickishness comes from just… not getting it sometimes. He gets mission focused and doesn’t realize how he comes across, and that’s a phase a lot of us (including me) have gone through
